I still don’t understand why in order to play Villanova we HAD to schedule non-D1 teams. That makes no sense. Should be mutually exclusive.

Apparently because we had to pay $$$$ to get to play Villanova, Loyola Chicago, and LSU, and maybe even UNCW and UNCA; that depleted our budget; so then we had to play whoever we could get for our other OOC games, and the only ones we could get were sub-D1 schools from within a 30-mile radius. (?)

I am shocked to report that power 5 stooge Joe Linardi now has Furman as the first team in the next 4 out box of his March 1st bracketology.

Like it would be better off for Kansas to schedule a Pittsburgh from the ACC than it would Furman. Rarely is Kansas ever going to see a benefit playing Furman.
And yet Kansas played Wofford, Eastern Michigan, Louisiana-Lafayette, New Mexico State, South Dakota, and Vermont this year.

Don't even try to tell me that Furman is more likely to beat Kansas than anyone on the above list. Kansas beat Wofford by 25.

Sorry, but I will not believe we paid those teams to play us until someone proves it. I call bull on that idea.

Teams from the Power conferences do not challenge themselves in OOC. They don't have to. Duke never plays a true OOC road game. The only games they play that are challenging games is in tournaments and the conference challenges. All these teams need to make the tournament is schedule 8-10 OOC wins play close to .500 in league play and have one good win. That's it. Clempson is the perfect example 17-12. They have one good ACC win and all the other ACC wins have come against the bottom feeders. They've done enough which of course is ridiculous.

I’m pretty sure THEY paid us to go play them...and playing the D II teams was the price we had to pay

FU03times and gman, you both need to communicate with soconjohn on these scheduling matters about why we play the teams we play OOC. He seems to be the only knowledgeable one, or the one whose explanations seem to make any sense,

My source tells me we were paid about $90,000 by LSU and by Villanova and a little less than that by Loyola. He laughed at the idea that we paid those teams to play us at their place.

I responded to this issue in another post earlier in the year. It's all about MONEY and we need more of it. To improve the schedule, to retain good coaches, to help with recruiting.

The ROI is undisputed.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
