Baseball is the only one of the 3 major sports where there is a chance for a mid major to compete for a championship.
Evidenced by these first day scores:
San Diego 3 Vandy 2
VCU 8 Georgia 1
Columbia 8 Gonzaga 2
Campbell 15 Georgia Tech 8

The best baseball program in our state is in Tigerville. Will S. Carolina have the guts to name Landon Powell as it’s next coach? The guy is a winner.

Don’t think Kingston is going anywhere this year. USC is already paying two football coaches and two basketball coaches.

You probably meant CU and the answer is no. First CU fans would not go for hiring a D2 coach. Second Powell’s MO which is bringing in D1 transfers would not work in D1.

I did mean S. Carolina, after this next season. But Carolina fans are the same, they would never go for a Div. II coach that is the best in the nation at developing players. They would never go for a coach that has contacts throughout the nation that keep his pipleline coming. In this day of college sports, bringing in transfers works for many teams. It would work for S. Carolina too.

BTW happy for NGU but they are not the best program in the state. Beating Point Loma for a NC is not the same as playing in the ACC or SEC or even the SoCon.
I counted 20 transfres on their roster, 16 from D1 schools so no that would not work at SC or CU. Of course if SC or CU started buying the best players in the country then that might work.

apaladin, I didn't say they were the best team in the state. I said they were the best baseball
program in the state. Big difference. As for your other point, S. Carolina has 8 transfers. USC Upstate has 14. Tennessee has 7. A team like Coastal has 12. Unless I read it wrong, Clemson has zero, so it would not work there. Nevertheless, the guy can coach, no matter where he is. His team play hard and smart for him and he is the best coach of fundamentals I have ever seen. Having a well coached team has nothing to do with transfers. In fact, bringing in transfers probably creates its own challenges. But you are probably right that Clemson or S. Carolina would not have the guts to hire someone with the high caliber of Powell.

Why don’t you go to their games to get your baseball fix? Just curious.

If the State of SC had a State College Baseball Tournament for all colleges in SC North Greenville would win.
