2018 So far: Offense or lack there of

Right now it seems that this could be the worst hitting/offensive team we've seen in a long time. It's been roughly a month since the Paladins have hit a HR. Runs have been really hard to come by lately. Clutch hitting is pretty much non-existent. We continue to bunt our way out of innings. Today for example after a lead-off double we bunt him to 3rd where he stayed. Never liked bunting a man from 2nd to 3rd. This team's lack of speed is glaring. The Paladins have been caught stealing 13 times out of only 24 attempts. For comparison WC has been caught 11 times in 100 attempts. So the Paladins have attempted 76 fewer steals than WC but been caught 2 more times. Today we had a man on first who appropriately tries to steal and gets thrown out. Batter then gets a hit and then a wild pitch. 2 chances to tie the game wasted by poor decisions. I like an aggressive offense but when you don't have the horses maybe its time to back off a little. Just sayin'

Keep the faith. Keep in mind the team lost a lot of offense from last years team. It would have been nice to win the Thursday game which could have propelled the team to a series win. Last years team hit a major slump around the same time. Agreed that the bunting has been questionable at best. We know the metrics on bunting. Momentum is a real thing in college baseball. We just need a little of it.

The last time I looked it up the numbers suggest that the only time you attempt a bunt is if you are playing for a single run. In college baseball, playing for a single run is rarely a good idea as multi-run innings are common in an offense friendly environment.

I love the idea of small ball. Stealing bases and getting guys over. But if you don’t have the personnel to do it, you end up just wasting outs.

We are scoring at a pace that would normally be "OK", but we are yielding more than a run per game more than we score. We have hit 7 sac flies, our opponents 27. Our base stealing has been atrocious. We have stolen 20 bases in 36 tries (includes 5 pickoffs). Most anyone would tell you that you are hitting yourself in the face if you can't succeed 70% of the time, and many would place the line at 80%. In the mean time, our opponents are stealing us blind. They have also been picked off 5 times, but even so, show a record of 68 out of 81. Of the three catchers we have used, they have been 0-10, 0-14 and 8-52. Our opponents should be running more, we should be running less.
None of these are easy fixes.
