Good interview trying to explain, without success, why FU and/or UNCG did not get bids.

FYI this video is over 7 minutes long if you can find it. I found it once but can't find it again.

I think being the first team OUT would hurt a whole lot more than just being left out. Plus losses for UNCG were to Wofford 3 times as well as LSU, Kentucky and FU. Absolutely NCAA tourney worthy IMHO.

The meltdown late against Samford at home was a killer.

I see similarities here and the situation our football team was in during playoff selection. Both teams had strong seasons, strong resumes, and a good cause to be in the field. In both instances, though, we had to try and explain away a single game where our team was winning and fell apart late (Basketball against Samford and football against ETSU).

I think the committee saw the conundrum of which to take - UNCG or FU - and took the easy way out. Oregon’s win was just a nice excuse.

Bingo. I think if Furman had flipped any two of the games we lost, we would have been in. The easiest being the Samford game and either the road Wofford loss or the UNCG loss in Asheville. A 27-5 team with that type of resume would have easily been in. No losses below Quad 1, win over Nova, win over Wofford or two over UNCG. Oh well. I'm still very excited for the NIT.

That's what not being in makes it worse, because how many times are we going to be in the position we were in. Well of course the answer is once in 39 years. Excited about the NIT even though we pretty much got hosed in the bracketing.

39 years is a fact. But from the Bob Richey video posted on this very thread there's an additional fact to keep in mind: in each of the past 3 years FU was losing "franchise-type" players (Croone in '16, Acox in '17, "The 4 Seniors" last year) and each time returned to do better than the previous year. That's a fact, too - and this year an amazing one.

Agreed! I think next year's team is going to be awesome. But let's wrap up this year first with an NIT title.

Poor fellow. You must live a hard life, always looking on the negative side. Enjoy where we are. Live in the present. I promise it's a good ride. Go Paladins.
