First time ever ranked in basketball.
AP - poll #24
Coaches Poll - tied for #25

This is good for the conference.

Go Furman

Good for them. Well-deserved and overdue.

Two different SoCon teams ranked this year. Has that ever happened?

I’d just like to point out that it took a win over Furman for them to get ranked. Aka it seems like the committee only recognizes a W as good when they have ranked the opponent before/currently...

Just an observation

And by that, I mean they should have been ranked a couple weeks ago, not just now!

Weren't we ranked in both polls earlier in the year. I am glad our little brother could have the same success following in our footsteps.

No, on a more serious note....it is about time. They deserve it!

NOT happy for them...NEVER will be. If we are going to call them our rival, let's start treating them like one.

Do you think they were reveling in our success when we beat Loyola and Nova? If you do, go read a few threads on their board. I'm all about SoCon brotherhood, but let's remember we are not only competing with them on the court (field) but off. I don't wish for anything that gives them an advantage.

They’ve been D1 only 22 years.
We’ve been D1 far, far longer.
I do want them to be good, but I want us at the same time to be significantly better. That is not happening. In 10 years, they have 5 NCAA appearances. In 39 years, we have zero.
I say it’s about time for us to get into the NCAA at least once every 2 or 3 years.
I do realize we have gotten better in recent years. We need to keep getting better.

Yes, I know how they reacted when we got ranked. But I have no intentions of being a hater just because they are. Wofford fans keep saying how we are always whining and talking crap about them while they are doing the exact same thing with Furman and us. I remember most of them discredited our W over Loyola and Villanova, said that Jordan Lyons matching the NCAA record for 3s was a disgrace and our ranking in the AP top 25 was nothing. I was taught by my family, and my Furman education, to look at things a certain way and not need to put others down to feel better about myself (or in this case my team). They’re unbeaten in a conference that is extremely competitive, whether the national media recognizes it or not. So their ranking is well-deserved and I’m happy the SoCon is being recognized. Let’s be competitive not only for records, but for attitude too, because that’s what stays with people in the long term.

A rising tide raises all boats.

What's good for Wofford is good for the SoCon and good for Furman.

It's not Wofford's job to lose to us, it's our job to beat them.

That holds true for all sports. CCH showed the way last football season.

I don't remember Davidson's BBall success having a positive impact on Furman BBall?

The way I was brought up...You handle your success with class...You congratulate your competitors and are happy for them when deserved success comes their way...Wofford has done things the right way...This isn't Marshall...They may be a rival of Furman's, but for the most part, they do things the right way...No school is perfect, obviously, but I think coach Young and staff do things the right way...Furman has to win tournament anyway, so Wofford's success doesn't change Furman's goals or task at hand...I never understood diminishing someone else's accomplishments...But then again, that comes from Wofford's football mentality of playing from behind in championships to Furman, especially on a national scale...That seems to carry over to other sports...They can't handle the success of Furman football and that it is the only remaining national champion in the SoCon...Unfortunately, fanhood sometimes breeds bitterness when it shouldn't...It should be different in basketball...They have been the standard in the league in hoops over the past decade.

"We have gotten better." Thanks for acknowledging at least that much!

You say you want us to be "signicantly better." Not to quibble about semantics, but we are significantly better! Two post season tournaments, school record in wins, 3 straight 20 win season, two POY in SoCon in last 4 years--and hopefully one more this year.

PLEASE take a ride with me on my handy TIME MACHINE back to 2007-2009 and 2012-2013. We won a total of 42 games. We have won more than that in Bob Richey's two seasons!

No, we have not made it to NCAA, and no we have not won regular season...but at some point people need to realize how different this is from any period in FU basketball since the 70's--with exception of a few seasons under Butch Estes--who had ONE 20 win season.

Now, let's go do something BIGGER and BETTER this year!
