ETSU beats FU by 23 at home. FU beats VMI by 32 at VMI. ETSU beats VMI by 3 at home. Basketball is crazy and unpredictable. Losers know how to lose. WCU's 4 pint lead with 4 to go turned into a 9 pint loss.
A lot has to do with the way teams match up. Furman has done really well against guard oriented teams like The Citadel and VMI and a lot of the smaller teams that we blew out of the water but has struggled with teams with big centers like WCU and teams with tall guards that can shoot three pointers over our two 5-11 guys. All three teams we've lost to: LSU, ETSU and UNCG have size in the paint and taller guards. I'm afraid Wofford is more of the same.
Also, the soft full court press is killing our half court offense. When we cross half court and get the ball to Rafferty he's often at the top of the key instead of the foul line or paint. That eliminates a lot of the angles for back door passes or passes to the corner for three pointers. We're forced to hit the reset button and pull the ball outside the perimeter as the shot clock is running down. That's the book on how to play Furman and we need to make some adjustments against Woffy.
