Lyons and his record....

Want yet another reason to beat the ever loving stuffing out of Wofford?

Get a load of this tweet by one of their fans:

“It bothered me. Bet you Coach Young wouldn't have allowed Fletch to take 34 threes and run up the score late in the game. Against a d-1 team thats fine. Im not impressed”

Here is another from Todd Shansey, @terriertracket, Sptbrg Herald Journal sportswriter who covers Wofford:

“Good guy and good for him to get in the record books. But doesn't it bother anybody that he shot 34 threes, including one with two seconds left in a 40-point win against a Division II school from the same county?”

Thoughts???

Fletcher Magee fan boys just salty

The funny thing is we were up by 40 with like 10mins. left, the record pursuit probably kept the game closer honestly

@mvaughn22 response to my defense of Lyons and Coach Richey:

“Nope. He took 6 3s in last couple minutes, and logged a decent amount more minutes than most starters. If you emptied the bench why did he keep playing? Just stating my opinion that you would not have seen guys chase personal records to run up score”

I responded to this by saying I respectfully disagreed...and wondered aloud if Newberry complained when we left Frank Selvy in the game to score 100 points.

Two garbage tweets. Nothing wrong with what happened last night or how it went down. And I can guarantee if it was their guy they wouldn't care at all.

Those Wofford fans have no clue about the game then, like I said we were up by 40 with 10 mins. left and won by 40, that's not running up the score, and if Lyons would have hit 1 more for 16 3's instead of missing down the stretch Richey would have taken him out to a big ovation, simple

Wofford basketball considers itself elite in SoCon. Who cares what they think. This was a great effort by a classy, great young man. Just need to break the record against the boys from Sparkle city.

They're worried about this? If I were a Wofford fan or alum I'd be more concerned about the deeds attributed to the man whose name is on their new building.

If it were Fletcher Magee, I would hope he achieved the record...I guess I look at it differently though...The game is about the work the players put in and the rewards that come along with it, not what we think as fans or media or whatever when we look at a stats sheet...Perception can often be skewed if one just looks at the numbers themselves...I think it looks better for the SoCon if it has as many records...Individual or team...for our league...I mean, no one says anything when The Citadel dropped 148 on Mid-Atlantic Christian? Why? That's the way they play and that was understood...Same should be true with all Division I games vs. non-Division I...The game wouldn't have been any different had Jordan Lyons scored four points...The outcome would have likely been the same, so it really couldn't be running up the score could it?
