It's signing day.

In the interest of that topic was just reading about our next D1 opponent, uber successful Villanova and saw this quote...especially given that I think we currently have 11 on scholarship and may roll over an open scholly to next year

I was sorry to see Nova lose both DiVencenzo and Spellman. They were not one and done types at all and Jay Wright tries to avoid it although his competition is embracing it. He usually has pretty seasoned teams who go on to the NBA with college degrees. I wish these universities would stop acting like a minor league for the NBA.

Believe we will see that change in the near future. There's already that thing in the G-League where they'll give elite prospects like 125K for a year to not go to college before heading to NBA. It could mean we don't see the elite of the elite HS players in college, but I'm OK with that because it allows those guys to make money quicker, and selfishly, makes the college product a little better because I can at least get to know teams a bit before they completely shuffle the deck again. One reason why I like pulling for a school like Furman.

yes, I have seen that. These kids should certainly be allowed to go earn a living as soon as they want to. I don't think it will lessen the product of college BB so much that people wont follow the March Madness that produces most of the revenues if it is played by non-elite student athletes. We can watch Zion Williamson et all in the G pro league if we want. BTW, I am not shocked that Duke is playing the one and done thing at all.

I agree. This sounds cheesy, but I love college basketball - and especially March Madness - for the names on the front of the jerseys, not the names on the back. I can't imagine a scenario where that would change. So if the best of the best need to skip college, I'm perfectly fine with that. There are plenty of players that will want the degree, who have no interest in the next level, and plenty that will blossom late that will play 2-3 years of college basketball (maybe all 4) before heading to the league. All good stuff.

Returning to signing day, I've seen individual tweets that all three men's players have signed. Nothing from the school yet, nor are the coaches hyping it quite so much as recent years. I think it's a really good class.

Any idea about Ques Glover, David Skogman or Zane Meeks? We have an extra scholarship, so I figured we would still be looking for one more recruit to land. Any of the 3 would really round out the class.

My understanding is they are holsding on to that schollie to see if they can pick up someone in the Spring (which we have had some success with in the past)

Recruiting classes pretty much all look good, since only the best high school players get D-I scholarships.

Kenney and Foster didn't have other reported D-I offers, which doesn't really predict much at the mid-major level, but does tend to result in less hype. The flip side of that was all the Taylor hype last year, which turned into literally nothing.

Kenney is the only one that has much video in the public realm, so it would seem hard to really have much of an opinion on the other two.

No matter how you spin it signing players with no other D1 offers on the surface does not sound good. Could these be walk ons? I don't think you can offer partial schiollies in basketball can you?

The product on the court proves the coaches know what they are doing in recruiting is working.
