Still need 2 football games for next season(2024) and one for 2025. Both ‘24 and ‘25 are 12 game seasons. Only one game in 2026 and then no games scheduled after that. Any news you can share?

There is A LOT packed into the “NCAA Division I Transformation Committee - Final Report” dated January 3, 2023.
https://ncaaorg.s3.amazonaws.com/commi ... Report.pdf

Could probably ask 10,000 questions on that document alone, but focusing on just one area of personal interest, noticed the following…

● Increased career preparation and support — The Transformation Committee recommends the establishment of an annual attestation requirement for schools regarding career services availability for current and former student-athletes.

AND

● Ongoing education and programming — …the Transformation Committee recommends that each Division I member school be required to annually attest that its coaches have completed required education in the following areas:
○ Career preparation.

AND

A New Holistic Model for Student-Athletes
In the fall of 2022, the Transformation Committee deliberated on a new model with suggested recommendations to usher in added support for the 21st century student-athlete…
* Require schools to attest that they provide career counseling and life skills programming to student-athletes that include, at minimum, the following:
○ Career preparation.

When the ‘rubber meets the road,’ how do you foresee Furman Athletics changing, if at all, to meet the coming NCAA requirements with regard to Student-Athlete-specific Career services?

Are we expecting to have a large Furman crowd in Asheville for the tournament this year?

Approx seating capacity of renovated Timmons?
Approx how many donor suites?
Will renovated Timmons have small upper deck or will all seats be in a lower bowl?
Will student section in renovated Timmons be on sideline or endzone?

Are we still hoping we can land a Power 6 opponent at Bon Secours Arena next season?

How much will it cost to keep you as AD at Furman until you retire :D
Seriously though keep up the great work!

Surely that is yes, playing Wofford there has drawn 6k attendance. Also playing a Power 6 team there would draw a huge crowd. Remember Furman wants to be/stay Greenville's team, best way to stay connected to city is to play some big games downtown every year.

My Question for JD: Sir, in the past you have spoken of the possibility that a successful Head Coach, if given the proper incentives, may decide he or she wants to be a Career Coach at Furman University. Have you considered the possibility of becoming a Career VP of Athletics at Furman?

Or ... "how do you foresee Furman student career services for all Furman students changing, if at all, to meet the coming NCAA requirements with regard to Student-Athlete-specific Career services?

To be clear, that revision is suggested based on the belief that NCAA supposedly can require Student Career services for student athletes; and the belief that the university should, at the same time that it provides those Student Career services for student athletes, with appropriate accessibility to all students, provide the same for all students.

It’s all the NCAA can do to pretend to care about Student Athletes. Let’s not pretend that the NCAA is also pretending to care about Students that are NOT Student Athletes.

We are assuming, in the future, the NCAA will be able to require anything of Member Schools, which is certainly not a certainty. So, assuming they can, per this document, there will be new requirements that certain Career Services are delivered to Student Athletes.

1) It’s possible that Furman may already be delivering these services to all students, including student athletes.

2) It’s possible that Furman may choose to add/make changes to currently existing Career Services (which exist outside of the Athletics Department) in order to ensure that the services received by all Students, including Student Athletes, meet new NCAA requirements.

3) Or, it’s possible that the Student Athlete’s real-world (non-idealized) experience at Furman is so different from the non-Student Athlete’s experience that specialized Career services are required to meet the requirements of the NCAA and, of course, the unique needs of those Student Athletes, in which case might necessitate at least some components of Student Athlete Career Services being led by the Athletics Department.

These options / choices / etc. are the root of FUBeAR’s question.

FUBeAR appreciates you attempting to reframe his question in a different vein and even trying to cobble out your vision of a preliminary answer on behalf of JD the VP & AD with the usual ‘student athletes are exactly like regular students and should never be recipients of anything that might even remotely be construed as “special” treatment’ mantra at the core of your effort, but FUBeAR will patiently wait for JD the VP & AD’s response instead, if he chooses to address the question.
