Who'll be 9th & 10th?

Friday fun.

So in Podcast #15 Coach offered that "we know our 'top eight'" players and listed them (including the Freshman, Vanderwal):
  • Bothwell
    Slawson
    Foster
    Hien
    Hughey
    Pegues
    Anderson
    Vanderwal
Coach added "There will be a guy [not from above] that will help us win a game or multiple games this season. And you watch, it will happen. … We’ve got to find a solidified ninth player and we’ve got to have a tenth that we can prepare for games" He subsequently listed five players from whom #9 & #10 will emerge.

So here's the question: Which of these five do you think will emerge as #9? As #10?
  • Davis Molnar
    Carter Whitt
    Jonny Lawrence
    Alex Williams
    James Repass

Love this. Guesses would be:

- Whitt (need another guard)
- Williams / Lawrence

The choice between those two forwards is gonna be TOUGH - both are snipers and I think that decision is probably keeping the staff up at night. Will be hard to keep whoever loses the battle happy, and you've got to hope they don't jump ship with minutes set to open up next year.

Repass sounds like he's still a year away (wish he'd redshirted last year), and Molnar seems like a good redshirt candidate that could come in a dominate with an extra year to prepare.

End of the day, these are pretty high class problems to have :D

1st its brilliant to name 8 out of 10. Right now 5 guys are busting butt to get one of those 2 spots

SD thinks it will also depend on needs

Bothwell SG
Slawson PF
Foster SF
Hien PF
Hughey PF
Pegues PG
Anderson PG
Vanderwal SF

2 PG
2 SF
1 SG
3 PF

They need somebody to spell Both. The other need is less clear. To spell Both, Whit would be the closes one to fit that need

Also just noticed Blake Harris from JL Mann is on the roster listed as junior. Hadnt heard much about him. Wonder if he made it from the try-outs.

It’s exciting that we had so much depth. I think its possible that any of the players 9-13 can burst through and play significant minutes. We saw last season how Joe A started off on the bench but continued to develop, finally got minutes and made the most of his opportunity. Injuries, unfortunately, can also create a need for a player to move up. Anyhow, FWIW, here are my predictions:
13. Davis Molar. CBR says he practices hard and he showed up with some upperclass muscle. Best bet to redshirt.
12. James Repass. Big body and we need that size against some of the teams we play. May need another year of development.
11. Carter Whitt. Big time recruit but seems to be trailing JP and Joe. Could easily break through as season progresses.
10. Alex Williams. Showed last year he can be instant offense. Hadn’t met a shot he didn’t like. Can cause match up problems.
9. Jonny Lawrence. Size matters and he can help us with his extra length. Solid outside shooter for a big man.
We have players and the coaching staff to go far this season. All aboard! We are getting ready to rumble.

13. Davis Molnar - Strong work ethic - will benefit from a redshirt year to adjust to the faster game.
12. James Repass - Big body - would love to see his inside game and coordination develop further - redshirt?
11. Alex Williams - Shooter - hope he shed a few pounds in offseason - played a bit out of control last year. Will be interesting to see what kind of strides he and Repass make from Yr 1 to 2.
10. Carter Whitt - Player I think who could emerge during second half of season as he learns the system, spelling some time for Bothwell down the stretch.
9. Jonny Lawrence - it's time for Eagle Fang to step up. Has a nice shot from outside - has his inside game developed any further? Gotta like his length behind Slaw and Hien.

I thought Coach sounded a lot hotter on them in this latest interview with Dan & JD than he did just a few days prior in Podcast 15. What a great problem to have!
