UTC lost to Illinois in NCAA
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... =401408600

Furman opted out after being screwed not getting NIT bid

Samford opted out of lower tourneys citing injuries, they knew they would lose without Glover who I believe broke his nose at end of game with us

Wofford quit Basketball Classic without playing a single game, afraid to play USC-Upstate

VMI lost today in CBI
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... =401411724

UNCG still plays later today in CBI
https://www.espn.com/mens-college-baske ... /401411726

Still am glad we did get into that CBI mess or that Basketball Classic mess.
But also glad the women were able to earn their 20th win.

UNCG lost as well, pretty underwhelming stuff

Top of the heap above the post-season train wreck (or outside of the dumpster fire) that the rest of the conference appears to be:
Chattanooga
Avoiding the train wreck (dumpster fire):
Furman
Maybe we can be the Chattanooga of 2023. Maybe the train wreck and dumpster fire will not occur next year.
Maybe.
Miracles occur.

Hopefully, he will work on making the SoCon a two-bid conference. Our time has come! :!:

9 BIG 10 teams made the tourney. Only 2 survived the first weekend. Time to limit the teams from one conference, but of course that will never happen. If not a minimum number of wins or maximum number of losses would be good.

1. There should be a limit of 6 teams from any one conference.

2. Any team that loses in the first round by more than 25 points should lose their auto bid for 1 year.

Agree with apaladin. None of this will ever happen, but its fun to think about it.

I’ve come to believe that the secret in basketball and football may not be improvement. As long as we don’t get WORSE we can just let the conference sink around us. Long time ago all the softer stuff around Paris Mountain eroded away leaving the mountain sitting there by itself. We might endeavor to be Paris Mt. while the rest of the conference is unconsolidated detritus.

Perhaps you are joking about that and I am a little slow to realize it. However, I think there is truth to your statement. As long as we don't get WORSE, as long as we keep winning 20-27 basketball games every year, we should be satisfied; and as long as we keep winning 6-7 football games, we should be satisfied. For one thing, we could improve and still go on to lose our first game in the NCAA Tournament or our first game in the NIT, possibly in an embarrassing, depressing fashion. So not winning the SoCon Tournament is not the end of the world. The world has continued for 42 years, going on 43 now (since we last played in the NCAA Tournament). The world has continued for 48 going on 49 years (since we won our only NCAA Tournament game). And for a second thing, as long as we don't get WORSE, things will fall our way some time. Probably numerous teams have won the SoCon in a surprise (I won't say fluke) over the last 42 years. Probably numerous teams have won other conference tournaments by surprise every single year. Our time has to come some year. So yeah, don't get WORSE. (On the other hand, I have long heard that if you are not getting better, you are getting worse; so it's hard to stay exactly where you are. You are either getting better or getting worse - so "they" say.) (Regarding football - yes 5 or 6 wins against D1 opponents is not getting worse.)

Part of what I’m saying is that by not getting worse, we will appear to get much better if our opponents get worse. So we could improve our records in both sports and start winning the conference without actually improving! That’s one reason to stay in the SoCon.
