Averged 18 points as a junior, 17 as a senior. Shot almost 44% and almost 40% from 3. I assume only one year,

So apparently he is a grad transfer? And joining his fiance at Furman? Did he decide to transfer in on his own or was he recruited?

A lot of questions. Does look like a good player from his highlights that I've seen. Quick first step on the drive and a quick release on his jumpshot. Named to the first team all conference in his league and was also on the all-defense team.

Kind of vague. He didn’t say he is joining his fiancee at Furman he said with his fiancee their next chapter will be at FU so sounds more like she is coming with him. I thought FU couldn’t take grad transfers?

In his statement he said he was going to Furman to finish out the rest of his undergraduate experience. I am surprised we are taking a transfer, especially a guard. That is the area we seemed to have set for the season. I hope this does not mean we are getting ready to lose one or two of our guards to the transfer portal.

Jimmie Williams coached at William Jewell, which is in the same conference as Drury. That's one possible connection for recruitment.

Is he non-schollie, bc on the face this contradicts the stated school policy that a student-athlete must finish their last 62 hours at FU. (or something like that, I posted the rule from the school website in another thread, but it basically makes only So and Fr eligible to transfer in) IF he is schollie how high up the totem pole do you go to get approval? Could there be some loophole about fiancees being enrolled? That would be taking recruiting pitches to another level.

As far as getting another G, it makes sense since we needed experienced depth last year. Let's take it where we can get it regardless of position.

Also, I totally predicted someone transferring out of the program before next season. Gurley was no. 2 on my list, Slawson no.1

All we have is Hunter. Every time he sits down we start falling apart. This guy could be a major addition. Our offense is completely dependent on outside shooting. Way to go BR! Thinking outside the box and finding a way around those graduation rules! Let’s get more of this.

We have guys who are clearly never gonna play. The portal is set up for guys like that to go somewhere and play instead of just occupying a scholarship. So if a few leave, everybody wins!

And apaladin, it doesn’t matter with this guy, but we do have a couple of masters programs. The MAT is especially good for athletes. You tack that onto your major and presto, you’re a certified teacher which means you can start coaching.

Drury appears to be a good school that most of us probably never heard much about. Men’s basketball there last won the D 2 national championship in 2013. The school has 22 (!) total combined basketball national championships between their men’s & their women’s teams.
Bob Barker (The Price Is Right) is one of Drury’s numerous notable graduates. And, Furman might want to consider looking at Drury’s several masters degree programs to possibly emulate - could be a way Furman could bring in graduate school transfers who have completed their bachelors degrees elsewhere but still have 1-2 years of eligibility. Overall, Drury appears to be smaller than Furman; although Drury does have a School of Continuing Professional Studies with about 1200 non-degree students, which I assume does not make a person eligible to play NCAA sports.
(Yes, I know the Muffin Man. And the Muffin Mam, too.)

Is this the big recruiting news that BR was referring to in the podcast?

I for one certainly hope not but then again he may be the next John Stockton.

Like you I hope not but it probably is. Garrison tweeted his signing on 4/14. The podcast was 10 days later so the “news” was already out there. FU didn’t announce until 5/8 prolly after everything was a done deal so it prolly is the “exciting recruiting news”. Now if he is the next John Stockton then all is good.
