Obviously none of us are happy where we are at 4-2. No one expected to lose at VMI and no one is surprised we lost at ET. Since the Alabama game we are barely .500 at 4-3. One third of the way thru the conference season and we sit in 4th place. Not good. Let’s face it we have not played well in a month. In spurts, yes but nowhere close to good game. Face it we could have lost all of our conference games, they have been that close. We are not impressing anyone. Sorry but our bench is no help. Today in 35 minutes they contributed 4 points and 3 rebounds. 4 of those points and 2 rebounds came in tbe last minute. So the first 34 minutes of play the bench had a total of one rebound contributed. In the first half after we clawed back to 20-19 we quickly get outscored 8-0 with subs in. In the second half up 40-37 we quickly get outscored again 8-0 with subs in but this time it only took 30 seconds. I’m in no way blaming the bench just pointing out whats happen8ng over and over. The starters have more of the blame for sure. The third game in a row we have had a starter as a no show. Not saying every starter has to play great but do have to contribute something. If this keeps happening its going to be a bad year. If you haven’t noticed the season is slowly going down the toilet. Its time to put up or shut up. No more room for error. At current rate we would finish 12-6 and that seems very optimistic. I do not know what CBR should do. I know he needs to play the bench but can he afford to keep losing points everytime he puts 2-3 in? Just the couple of examples above cost the team 16 points in about 3 minutes. The other 37 minutes FU was plus 7. We have 12 games left and I think the best we finish is 8-4 which would leave us 12-6 and prolly 4th place. WC is in the drivers seat. I don’t see them losing more than 2 the rest of the way. Don’t think ETSU is that good and could see uncg finishing second.
Anyway hope this entire team can get it together, starters, bench and coaches. This has been going on for a month and its tme for it to stop. Its not too late but its certainly in the urgent category. Right now, the best word I can come up with to describe this season is disappointing. This team needs to start having some fun like it used to.

We have been, are, and will be good enough.
Enjoy the season and Coach Richey while we have him.
UofSC may be in the market for a coach soon, and we could lose him to them.

I don’t think I realized until this this week. I think this team really misses the leadership of Jordan Lyons. No way would JL let this team lose to VMi and prolly not today.

Unfortunately, we have been very inconsistent . All of the starters are very strong, but all have had horrific nights. If we can avoid the inconsistency, I think we will be fine.
Go Furman!!

One thing I know is that we will be good enough, and good enough IS fine, go Furman.

We had very high hopes for this team. Maybe too high. They are still very good and can, need to get better. A couple of items concern me. First, a lot of comments have been made about the lack of production from the subs. It seems to me when they enter the game they take a subservient role to the starters who then take most of the shots and the defense can concentrate of them. Maybe, JP, our Junior guard is the exception. Hence, give the subs more of a green light to shoot, make plays etc. Secondly, we do have trouble with a team with a big 5, ETSU and VMI are the latest examples. Perhaps we should tinker with a bigger line up at times with Bothwell at point and Mounce or Foster at the 2 guard position and Hein at 3 with Slawson and Gurley down low. Thirdly, when we shoot the 3 I do not see enough players in position or crashing the boards for a rebound. Offensive rebounds are a key to win. We do have some great individual talent as well as an excellent coaching staff. I hope they figure it out soon and we can all enjoy the ride down the stretch. Go Paladins!

It's Jan. 24...Relax...It's a good league...Furman has good players...So do ETSU, VMI and several other teams in the SoCon...I knew, as everyone should have known, it was never going to be easy even as good as Furman is...This is a good league.

I agree with much of what you say, but when our subs shoot (even if recruited for shooting skill) it looks pretty bad and that is troubling.
And 3 rebounding is just different because the ball comes in hot and bounces off hot. If we shot with more arc it would help (plus more of our 3s would go in).

The sky is not falling. ETSU is a tough team and we have split with them, but I like our chances on a neutral court. They have a lot of new players and are evolving into a good team, we have a more veteran group as far as playing together is concerned. The bottom line is who can improve the most by the end of the season.

The VMI loss was more painful but I don't think we will be the only top team to lose in Lexington. Time will tell.

I don't think any team will get thru the SoCon with only 2 losses. A 3 loss team could win the regular season.

The UNCG game looms large. Certainly we need a win.

*subs have the “green light”. If the didn’t, they wouldn’t get to play.

*scoring is only one metric of the subs’ contribution; listen to coach’s post game and learn more about how they measure their contribution.

*thought we would get more out of the bench. So that’s a problem. Yet some of them don’t seem to have gotten much of an opportunity to show what they have. But they are never going to get off the bench if they don’t play defense.

*3 pointers— I used to question why our shooters don’t follow their shot. I then realized they are more focused on defend g the other teams fast break and is exactly what they are told to do.

*pre season goals are still within reach. Just need more consistency. We are still a work in progress. Our best is in front of us.

*I’m disappointed but not discouraged. Many good things within our grasp. Absolutely expected league leader to have as many as 3 losses.

*need to beat UNCG. Got to defend the home court.

If so, then they have pretty much loved it for 4 years now. The overall scheme has not changed. Tweaked to fit players' talent maybe.

He never met a shot he didn't like.
