My favorite would be the '70 team of USC with Roche, Owens, Riker, Ribock, and Cremins. Or was it Bob Carver? With Rick Aydellotte coming off the bench. Can't remember if he was on that team or not.

They could also fight pretty good too!

Furman: Clyde Mayes 17 points, 11 rebounds; Bruce Grimm 21 points; Fessor Leonard 12 points, 6 rebounds.

Clemson: Dale Davis 18 points, 12 rebounds; Elden Campbell 16 points, 8 rebounds.

Game Summary: Sharp-shooter Bruce Grimm drilled a 3-pointer from the left wing with three seconds remaining to break Clemson’s heart and advance the Paladins into the Elite Eight.

The game featured a battle royal around the rim with Clemson’s all-star tandem of Dale Davis and Elden Campbell battling the Paladins’ Clyde Mayes and Fessor Leonard.

The Tigers, who fought back from a nine-point deficit in the second half, took the lead 71-70 Davis’ follow-up of a Marion Cash miss with 9 seconds on the clock. Furman point guard Ed Kelley got the ball to Grimm for the decisive shot.

Loved that Clemson game!

Used to occasionally shoot pool in the student center with Bruce between classes. Does anyone know what he did career wise after FU?

I think he had a somewhat troubled life. But I believe his son was a real basketball standout in Indiana.

Bruce had one of the great nicknames in FU history....Poinsett Bruce. BTW he would have love playing with the 3 point line and how modern day coaches have encouraged the shot.

This is sort of bogus. I know this Carolina team was really good so far as their record goes, but talent-wise it did not compare with the Carolina team the 1974 Paladins actually beat. English was an 8 time NBA Allstar and Winters was a 2 time NBA Allstar. Dunleavy wasn’t an Allstar but had a long NBA career. But Furman just handled them. English was visibly intimidated by Mayes especially after Clyde caught one of his jumpers- didn’t slap it away, just caught it. Humiliating.
