The Paladins won their first game of the Summer Tour today. They beat IBA Elite 94-69.

The starters were Slawson, Mounce, Clark, Lyons, and Hunter. Gurley wasn't listed in the box score. The five starters and Bothwell all played between 21 and 29 minutes. Hunter was the leading scorer with 19 pts. Mounce and Slawson added 13 each and Lyons and Bothwell added 11 each. Bothwell hit 9-11 FTs. Slawson lead all players with 10 rebounds. Foster and Kenney played the most of the freshmen - over 10 minutes each. Foster had 8 points and 5 rebounds.

Looks like defense and three point shooting were the keys to the win. The opponents had 25 turnovers and Furman hit 13 three point shots to IBA's 6. A slow start left Furman trailing by 32-29 at halftime but the Paladins ran away with the second half. They scored 65 in the second half including 36 in the 4th quarter.

Looks like we pulled all the starters for almost entire 4th and let the young guys roll after getting up 20...Slawson stats show a lot of improvement!

Slawson had 4 points and 7 rebounds, not exactly setting the world on fire but definitely improvement.

Lyons lead the way with 19 points. Hunter and Bothwell with 14 each and three other players were in double figures. Mounce lead the rebounding with 9; Slawson, Bothwell, and Foster with 7 each.

A lot of turnovers. Furman had 23 and RTE had 15. Furman shot better and won the rebounding 48-37. The Paladins blocked 7 shots. A cynic might wonder if there was some home cooking going on. RTE shot 35 FTs to Furman's 18. A bit odd for the team with the big lead to keep fouling the team trying to come back. RTE took 17 FTs in the 4th period after Furman was leading by double digits.

Six players with more than 20 minutes. Foster, Kenney, and Lawrence had more than 10 minutes each.

I searched for the names of some of the opponents. Kenny Isnord is an incoming freshman at Florida International listed at 6'9" 220. He appears to have been recruited by a bunch of teams - Virginia Tech, VCU, St. Bonaventure, Buffalo, Florida Gulf Coast, etc. A recruiting site described him as "hyper-athletic." He may have had some academic issues - most of those offers were for a year ago. Several other players on RTE's squad are on junior college rosters. One plays for Canisius Univ.

Nothing in the local media. Didn't really expect any. Would have thought there would have been something on the Furman website.

Am I thinking correctly that we are only playing 2 games?

Yes. Looks like each American college that is participating in this only plays two games. Furman is only listed twice in this schedule: http://bbfn.web.geniussports.com/compet ... N/schedule

Chattanooga, Georgetown, Memphis, Murray State, and Texas Tech are among the other American colleges that will also be playing as part of this.
