My understanding is
At the beginning of the season you get your county and and all the counties closer to you than any other school. If you beat a team you then get all their land.

I did say perception wise. Tell someone you beat Notre Dame and Liberty. 99 9 percent is going to be more impressed by beating Notre Dame.

going by KenPom cuz Notre Dame will be under .500 this year

They do because they have that P5 designation and are in the ACC. Obviously they are not a big win but the perception is still there.
