The A10 makes no sense at all. 15 teams, only Davidson is driveable, plus no football. Expenses would be huge for away games for all the non-revenue sports.
A10 makes a ton of sense, there are a ton of awesome Mid-Major programs in that league, only thing better for us would be Big East and that's just dreaming too big. One thing we know for sure is the SoCon is not the answer long term for our Basketball program, gotta have bigger dreams than that.
Football or not won't make a difference, look at the Villanova model, Football is free agent to get in best conference they can like Nova does with Big East basketball and CAA football.

Davidson has had three NCAA bids in the a10 but only two were at large, 2018 was winning the tourney. If they had stayed socon how many? Gotta wonder.
Ok so that is 3 in 8 years, maybe they stay in SoCon and go 4 or 5 times instead of 3 (maybe and maybe not), but that really does not matter. The split NCAA tourney revenue they get from being in a multi-bid league, plus the larger TV contracts far outpaces any money they would have ever made in the SoCon.

Plus imagine getting to host Dayton, VCU, Richmond, UMass, Loyola Chicago, Saint Louis, Davidson type schools for home games on a regular basis, would be hype and generate alot more publicity than the SoCon games we play now. Plus we can still play out of conference games with the likes of Wofftard or whoever, all makes prefect sense.

Plus a higher profile like that would make it easier to schedule P6 schools to come to play us in downtown Greenville.

Literally what other conference makes more sense than A10?

If we want to grow the profile of the program to lofty heights the long term answer is not the SoCon.
If the Big East plucks a few schools from the A10 then maybe A10 looks to add a package of Furman, Belmont, Charleston or others in region together, even better really.

I’m OK with A10 except what about football? Should we follow the Richmond model?
… Why not CAA for all sports including basketball and football?
And why not also bring Citadel and Wofford along with us to the CAA?

CAA would truly be bad for basketball, then your talking about heavy travel, but without the perks of being in a multi-bid league, that would be awful. The SoCon is better than CAA.

The purpose of changing leagues would be to get into a better conference for basketball that regularly gets 2-4 teams into the NCAA tourney each year. A10 checks those boxes. Then FU football is free agent to go to whatever conference it prefers.

Fans speculate. SD is one of the best at that :)
Dins plan. The answer is right in here https://www.paladingreatness.com/ If moving fits then thats what they gonna do.. Has to check off several boxes. Of course, the wildcard is survival. If the SoCon starts to unravel due to other moves, then all bets are off

JD has said it multiple times, the biggest thing is positioning ourselves to be in a multi-bid conference for basketball, that is pretty clearly not going to be the SoCon.
Its also pretty clear the best landing spot to accomplish that goal would be 'a version of' A10

So Davidson has had 2 at large bids to NCAA since going to A10. Do we think Furman would be able to get that same number in the A10 in that same amount of time? Do we think Furman would be able to win one A10 tourney in that same amount of time? Of course I realize that in the SoCon, we have gotten zero tourney wins and zero at large bids in 43 years; so maybe for Furman, just one of either kind of berth into NCAA tournament in the number of years that Davidson has been in the A10, if we were to move to the A10, would be an improvement for Furman; on the other hand, are we sure it would be worth the extra travel cost to those A10 locations, all seemingly quite far-flung except traveling to Davidson and to Richmond?

Furman can’t afford a baseball team. No way they can afford to fly all the womens sports and the other couple of non-revenue men’s sports up and down the east coast and pay for overnight stays. Basically every SoCon school is driveable. I like the SoCon size because you play every team, A10 and CAA you don’t. Furman certainly couldn’t afford the $2 million exit fee.

Let's not forget Furman is dedicated to reducing its Carbon Footprint. We aren't going to do that running up and down the East Coast. Besides, some of us like to go to Away games. No sense making it harder on the supporters.

Furman can afford any sport it wants, it made its decisions to cut baseball and lacrosse based on the current administration’s desire to throw a bone to faculty who believe too much money is spent on athletics. That is also why the announcement about our major gift spelled out that athletic capital improvements aren’t going to be subsidized by University money.

Furman along with every other Socon member voted less than a year ago to double the exit fee to $ 2 million with proper notice. We aren’t going to another conference.
We will soon enough ;)

All you guys have to do is open your ears and hear what JD says, we want to be in a multi-bid basketball league

That is not the SoCon

That is however the A10

Once we get the Timmons project finished we can start making our pitch to the A10

Time to raise the program prestige to another level!

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
