Creed is close but not correct. I think Creed was a HS QB but played wide receiver at FU during his freshman year. After his first year he only played basketball. The correct answer is Jimmy Holleman.
Floyd was a reserve/scout team QB @ FU, as a FR in 1980. I believe he played football in ‘81 also. Tim Sorrells & David Charpia we’re ahead of him, so I don’t think he saw any action. I know we (initially) wished we had him in ‘82 when Charpia was injured at the end of the NC State game...and a young man named Drew Norman started at App, before he was pulled & a true Freshman named Lamb QB’d a come-from-behind victory.

I remember Holleman playing hoops, but I don’t remember him playing football & I was there (playing football ) the years he was playing hoops.

EDIT: Just checked the 2013 Media Guide’s All-Time Players list - 1980 only for Creed & he did have a few rushing & passing stats, so he saw some game action that year. No listing for Jimmy Holleman as a Football Player.

FUBeAR,

I just realized we are answering two separate questions. The one I posted about a B-ball player from Mt Airy- the answer is Jimmy Holleman and he did not play football. The answer to your question is Floyd Creed. Sorry for the confusion.

What former Furman Basketball player (Guard), decided to play football during his last year, after basketball eligibility expired (I think) and actually got some playing time at receiver?

I think it was Ray Miller that led the team in scoring one year and then left? I can't help wondering what ever happened to him?

Don Harris sang the anthem. Mr Cottingham was Director of Intramurals. Drove the old 49 Plymouth with the equipment in the trunk.

Excellent. The judges also would have accepted Randy Morris on the anthem question..

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
