• POLLS. And September. Both are SO important !!!

I am on a mobile device so all I can do is copy this years links but it's scary how close the committee follows the Coaches and STATS poll where we know it's 'slot voting' (I think that's the right term?). I mean That one team starts ranked in top ten and goes 7-4 and finishes ranked 17th. Another team starts unranked and goes 7-4 vs exact SAME competition and finishes ranked in ORV or 25th.

STATS. http://www.fcs.football/cfb/polls.asp?div=fcs
COCAHES. https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/football/ ... aches-poll

Look at the final STATS and COACHES polls I attached -- eerily close to what the committee chose for the bubble teams.

Furman is about 28/29 in both polls. Take out the IVY league teams that don't go to playoffs - Princeton and Dartmouth. Take out NC A&T who goes to the HBCU bowl. That makes us 25/26. Yep.

Guess who is ahead of us? Incarnate Word and Lamar. We need to quit these 0-3 September starts (Hendrix said something today in the Greenville News Online to the effect that the committee obviously didn't care about our strength of schedule !) - yep!! Get some WINS. WINS. That became clear today that the committee prefers wins over quality opponents.

Look at those Polls. It's almost identical to who the committee chose. That would be fine except those polls are CRAP. That's what irritates me. As I said (and many others like Jackal have too) they make it very hard to move up in the poll but once you are in they keep you there

Good news is we are receiving votes ... We need to win some September 2019 games and keep in the polls. That's why I personally wish we weren't playing. Two FBS teams but it is what it is. Dammit

To prevent the 0 and 3 September starts there needs to be a change in philosophy in scheduling the 2 FCS non conference games. In 2016 Wofford played Tenn Tech (2016 record 5-6) and J C Smith . In 2017 Wofford played Gardner Webb (2017 record 1-10) and PC (2017 record 4-7). In 2018 Wofford again played Gardner Webb (2018 record 3-8) and PC (2018 record 2-8) In 2016 Furman played Coastal Carolina (2016 record 10-2) and Kennesaw State (2016 record 8-3) In 2017 Furman played Elon ( 2017 record 8-4) and Colgate (2017 record 7-4) In 2018 Furman played Elon (2018 record 6-4 CAA) and scheduled Colgate (2018 record 9-1). If Furman schedules Gardner Webb and PC we probably get into the playoffs. I think we should scrap any future scheduled CAA games and other games that look "attractive" on paper. I would rather make the effing playoffs by scheduling the Little Sisters of the Poor and Double Amputee Rehab Tech like Wofford does, than having a schedule that looks "good" or "attractive" on paper and not make the playoffs.

As with most things moderation is key I think.. though drink all you want :)

Scheudle An FBS - a 'good' FCS like Elon or Colgate and a Gardner Webb or PC is a great start I think. Yes, WE need to get better. sure - but having a PC or Gardner Webb helps us get better and should give us a win.. and if we lose to PC then I don't want the playoffs anyway.

It allows for 2-1 or 1-2 .. and that allows us both practice AND - to make the playoffs which any coach will tell you making the playoffs answers the question of 'WE just need to get better' because it gives you extra game reps and practices.

people say "WE just need to get better" - well, playing an easier team ironically makes US get better. if we had played Gardner Webb and won this year.. we would be in playoffs and getting extra practice ... thus WE would be getting better. its that simple. Wofford took the little sisters of the poor and they are now getting both extra practices and it helps RECRUITING to get in playoffs. I heard Hendrix say last year that those two extra weeks of play helped our young guys a lot.

They've always done this. They are lazy and it is obvious they do very little if any research and really don't care.
ap, not exactly. The committee was more tied to the AGS poll and nobowls.com

this year they went straight down STATS/COACHES which are FAR WORSE polls.. lazy azz biatches

I mean that poll is such a crock of shit! 3 votes?? That means like 1 damn coach in the FCS poll voted for us, that's absurd!!
Yet Wofford who we annihilated is ranked 12th because they beat PC and Gardner-webb, freaking horse crap man

I was glad we were playing Elon and Colgate. WE just need to get better and be sure we beat such teams from CAA and Patriot plus all of the SoCon. No let downs such as at ETSU.
It was difficult for the committee, I am sure, to see a 6-4 Elon and 6-4 Furman team sitting there. It's difficult to make an argument for Furman's inclusion over Elon even though the Paladins were playing better football.

Unfortunately, out of all the games on our scheduled that could have been canceled, the Colgate game was a tough one to lose. Win that game and we are easily in the post season. Lose and we aren't in at all. At least we would have had a bit of clarity.

One of the most absolute absurd things is how they reward a team like Incompetent Word for canceling a game on their own decision, yet penalize a team like Furman who had no choice but to cancel our game, its just mind boggling
But honestly not when you realize it was a rigged system by the UCA AD in favor of his putrid southland conference

Jackal I have to disagree here. LOSING TO COLGATE COULD HAVE been the best thing to happen to Furman !!! It would have given us game reps and practice we desperately needed at that time with such a young team. Maybeb the coaches are able to work with the OL etc and we are more ready for ETSU . Maybe, just MAYBE, losing to Colgate could have had us better prepared for ETSU !

Then we beat ETSU and win the SoCon outright and we are in the playoffs, all because we LOST to Colgate ! So beat Colgate - make playoffs. Lose to colgate ??? maybe it helps us beat ETSU ?? we will never know - I realize that is a supposition but the truth remains if we beat Colgate we are in playoffs. Losing to Colgate MAY have helped us.

IE, the only bad possibility was NOT PLAYING the Colgate game ;)
