I recall possibly Jackal and other posters have questioned why the CAA's William & Mary is ranked so highly. Their 4-0 resume so far .....

Beat Campbell (2-2) 34-24
Beat Wofford (0-4) 23-6
Beat Charleston Southern (1-3) 15-7. Charleston Southern's lone win was Week 1 vs. North Greenville, 13-10. The same Charleston Southern that lost yesterday 77-21 to (unranked??) Western Carolina.
Beat Maine (0-4) 28-3.

Voters can't believe this is a strong resume so far, can they?

The guy that runs that poll is a longtime CAA, Northeast pom-pomer, where wins are overrated and losses underrated. Been pushing that show for years.

From what I can see, there are currently 4 other ranked CAA teams (UNH, Villanova, Delaware, and Rhode Island)

William and Mary doesn't play any of them.

They have a winless ACC school (UVA) and basically the worst teams in the CAA left on their schedule, which has already included Wofford and Charleston Southern, two of the worst teams in the FCS.

W&M Would be a nice playoff matchup for the Paladins

If W&M can go on the road and get by Elon this week, they are almost certainly going to be 10-0 FCS and could, possibly, add an FBS P5 ACC win (over winless UVa) and an 11-0 record to that 'mix.' Probably, the worst case for W&M with their cupcake-rich CAA schedule is 9-2 / 9-1 FCS (loss to Elon). Perhaps, @ Albany on 11/4 could be a challenge for them, but doubtful.

In the 1st scenario they could be a #1 or #2 seed. In the latter case, they would most likely be seeded somewhere in the 6-8 range.

So...given these projections, we definitely do not want to play W&M in the 1st 2 rounds...as that would mean Furman did not get a seed. We could see The Tribe in the quarterfinals though...and...even going to Williamsburg vs. Brookings, Fargo, or Bozeman would be most welcome!!!

I almost replied to a poll online to make a similar case for our being ranked ahead of W&M. While I still believe we are the better team, their combined opponents have a total of TWO D-1 wins, Furman's victories came against teams with a combined THREE D-1 wins.
There is undoubtedly CAA bias, but after they play UVA and we play WCU, we will know more about who's for real. Til then, being side-by-side one way or the other in a national poll is "fair" in terms of the current landscape.

I don't have W&M in the Top 10 in my poll on the AGS. Their resume is simply too weak.

Going by W&M’s results especially the CSU and WC scores there is no way they come close to a bad Virginia team.

That's what it looks like.

William and Mary may well be the top CAA team, but it's crazy to me that they'll go through the entire season and likely not play any of their league's top teams.
