WCU is hammering Charleston Southern

UTC has a two score lead on Samford. Samford had a lot of preseason press, but they are up against a wall right now.

VMI beat Wofford, which is another punch to an awful start to the season for the Terriers.

Looks like Samford is going to get blown out for the second conference game.

Western is very good. Looks like they rather than Samford will be our competition. Chatt also looking competitive. We played our best game of the year today on both sides of the ball. Only a brain fart by the coaching staff at the end of the 1st half marred the effort. Plenty of kids played and we saw some good things from a few. Croesdale at RB looked very good as did Smith. Nice to see big Pline looking better - loads of potential. Was open over the middle a lot today. Too bad Blackshear dropped a pair of Pick 6’s. Reads the β€œout β€œ pass beautifully. Hope he’s saving one for Western. πŸ˜€ Bye week will help a few walking wounded. Great effort all around by players and staff - with the already mentioned lapse

Wofford is among the worst full scholarship programs in division 1 . . . Will be funny to see how long they can go without winning. Wonder what their message board says. Ah right that went away a couple rock bottoms ago.

Citadel amazingly enough is even worse.

Wofford lost to a non scholarship team.

Wofford right now might be the worst team in the FCS.

For some reason they ran Ayers out of town, they have not been the same since.

Maybe they are trying to mismanage their football program into the ground as an excuse to give up the scholarship football or football all together.

Losing Ayers was a mistake. The dude they hired to replace him was a bigger mistake. He had a few good years with Ayers' players, but after that it was pretty clear the emperor had no clothes.

Wofford is in a tight spot. They are easy pickings in the transfer portal, and don't have enough graduate options to really take advantage of it.

Would most agree three tiers?

Furman. Western. UTC

Mercer. Samford

β€”β€”β€”-
VMI. ETSU. … Citadel. VMI

Take it FWIW - I still think Mercer is a top-25 team. Furman played a very good game today, but I think this game was at least a little closer than the final score suggests. Furman was clearly better, but it was more like a top-5 or 10 team wearing down and beating a team that is in the back half of the top-25. I lurk here as a former Paladin, so forgive me for posting. I try to only do it around SoCon threads or when you play WCU :-)

I don't necessarily disagree with that. Furman looked the part of the top 10 team today.

Mercer will do well in the SoCon and have a shot at the playoffs. I'm glad Furman has them in the rearview mirror.

Tennessee Tech beat Kennesaw State 17-7.

Looking at the box score, it appears KSU played a lot fewer players than they did against Furman.

Wow, Murphy was 8-24 76 yds. Last week 17-31 308 yds.
