SPEED KILLS. Height? recruiting miss? From ESPN

Here is a miss by us in recruiting.

Arguably UGAs most explosive player!!! was being pushed by his HS coach for Furman and Samford to please offer him a scholarship. Most FCS and D2 said he’s too short. WHO THE F CARES? Darren Sproles etc. Maurice Jones-Drew. Barry Sanders. Steve Smitg. Height don’t matter for a kickoff / punt returner. If he’s this good take him. Esp at Running Back or so. You just hand it to him or let him take punts and KOR as UGA has done. And HES KILLING IT.

Article Literally calls on Furman and Samford as schools that wouldn’t offer UGA current punt and KOR star. Mekhi Mews. Oh man. Wish we coulda seen past the height thing. K state has made a living in FBS with these guys. Just hand it to him and let him go! Samford had a receiver who was quite short and was about the best in SoCon a few years ago

https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... ive-player

Just think if you added him to our team now…oh man

That said, hear me that I am impressed with Colton Hinton etc. Looks super fast. Y he’s 5’11” but one of the lightest guys. Speed baby. Speed. Saw him run a play v USC looked FAST

Also our recruiting is light years ahead of where it was under prior regimes. Light years. So that’s awesome

Heck, some coaches can’t figure who to play even when they have the player. how did PC not play Huff? That’s why when people say coaches surely know a lot… I am a little slow to agree. PC wasn’t smart enough to play Tyler Huff at QB? Really? What were they thinking lol. But hey, they saw him in practice every day and decided to sit him.

Tyler Huff played at PC. https://gobluehose.com/sports/football/ ... -huff/5296

As for missing out on a recruit, I trust the coaching staff to make the right decisions for the team. Seems to be working just fine.

I don’t think Huff was the clear starter at PC is what I meant. Your link shows he played 4 games in fall of 21.

Also, I said our recruiting was light years ahead of where it used to be. I literally stated that.

However this was a definite miss as he has become one of the most scary players in the SEC. Think about that. And we said no. Just one instance but this was a BIG miss by us and - to be fair - several others. We almost faced him as TTU came close to getting him. in FCS you can’t miss on too many.

To put it in perspective .. think of it this way… this guy probably has a better shot at the NFL than anyone on our roster. Probably more than ANY player we have. And all we had to do was offer and probably woulda gotten him - how many other UGA players can we say that about? I doubt any?

Just caught my eye as it was a rare ESPN article that mentioned Furman

Anyway GoFurman. Beat on them Owls please !!!!!!!!

Back to the game. We MUST win this if we want any help in playoff scheme. I realize it’s not a conference game. And we can lose this and get a
SoCon ring and get in playoffs but 2-1 keeps us in top ten and maybe a bye or whatever - keeps us in conversation

GoFurman, you need to review who actually Furman is recruiting, offered, and who is committed.

Furman already has a burner committed for next year.
JGH was clocked at 22.5 mph (for comparison, Jonathan Taylor has been clocked in the 22.5 - 22.20 range)

He's been timed at a Nike camp at 4.42

I have to add this clip, The dude is an ankle-breaker

Astro, that’s awesome. Thank you. Great stuff!,, Seriously. Thank you. Good data and facts.

But some of you all need to slow down and READ. This guy was available LAST year. Last year. Not for this year. He coulda been a sophomore now. So I love the speedsters Astro points out. But it’s Not quite as relevant to who we are recruiting for 2024 since this guy woulda been a sophomore now. Besides we need TOTAL AGGREGATE team speed everywhere.

Even with a burner or two coming let’s look at a big reason why USC is better. Because they are FASTER and more athletic at so many positions. You can always use more team speed

He is CLEARLY more explosive than anyone we have. I hope we have awesome guys like Astro is talking about next year but I bet dollars to donuts this guy would be top 2 fastest and most explosive on the team right now

Such a cop out. I could type that “until you know the entire story..give it a break” about ANYTHING at ANYTIME …. Who knows what that means

Feel free to share anytime damnit. You can send a DM. anytime seriously. So it will be private. I check my PMs. I’ll check again tonight in anticipation of yours. Say 11pm

Otherwise I’ll assume you aren’t committed to this and you can ….give it a break

I’ll check my PMs for ANYTHING by 11pm. You can just give me a brief or anything.

I’ll close this by saying 1). I hope people are as passionate at the games as they were about this. Myself included
2). I appreciate that Astro brought actual DATA into play vs most
Thank you Astro. Good stuff

I’ll be at Mercer and the next yelling loud

Go Paladins

I'm not sure I would call it a "big recruiting miss," because that blurb lacks some context (besides being only one side of a story).

Furman took only one WR in the '21 class, Joshua Harris. That was the class coming during the COVID season. Mews was in the same class of recruits.

While there may be literally dozens of reasons Furman may not have offered a kid that have nothing to do with height, it may be as simple as we took only one receiver and needed to make sure we hit on that player.

Bigger programs, like UGA, are able to take some flyers on guys that may pan out in the future as a specialist. FCS schools do that too to some degree, but if Furman was taking only one player in the class at a position, they may have needed a guy that was going to be a big contributor and anchor that position and not necessarily a guy that may one day return kicks. We just don't have the scholarships to toss around.
