Whatcha think? Seems kinda smallish for a DL but hope he is a good one.

He's arguably "short" for a defensive lineman, but not "small."

Watch his film. The dude looks like he's shot out of a cannon. He's going to be an excellent compliment to some of our hulking interior linemen and allow us to mix up our fronts and techniques.

There can be a big advantage to having a shorter high motor physical defensive lineman. They can be incredibly tough to block for usually taller and less nimble offensive linemen. Remember, a lot of SoCon teams are single back spread offenses were much of the running is east/west, not north/south. There's value in being able to shoot through a gap and chase down the ball carrier.

There's a big list of successful NFL pass rushers who came into the league around 6'0. Not to mention, there have been a number of very good defensive linemen at Furman of similar size and build.

A lot of line play is power and leverage. He looks to have both. He is probably a day 1 rotational piece inside.

Oh, let’s see…Jaylan Reid was pretty good. So was Justin Brown. So was Brian Pitts.

Was Allen Edwards 6-foot? He had a decent career (total sarcasm).

The way we rotate linemen now this guy will give us solid depth. His stats are impressive and I don’t care that he played D 2. He’s a quality, experienced player. Good transfer!

This could turn out good. The guy is proven technology. Old man muscle and lots of experience. And math majors ANYWHERE are pretty dang smart.

Not a lot of fun trying to block this guy. He can play.

You will appreciate that it appears Mr. Cook has been assigned #99.

I don’t want to oversell this, but these are the sort of moves that help elevate a team like Furman.

Furman isn’t wholesale rebuilding through the transfer portal each season. We’ve recruited well and have a strong core. That allows us to go pick up a player that fits as part of the puzzle. Players are not required to be everything, but they are allowed to be utilized in a way that fits their greatest strengths.
