VMI like WCU is coming off an embarrassing loss. They are 1-5 with their only win coming against 0-6 Bucknell. They are the only team without a conference win. Last week they were down to their third team QB. Have no idea if either of their 1st or 2nd team QB’s will be back for the FU game. Be assured after watching the WCU and Citadel games and seeng how much we struggled to get to the passer and cover receivers they are going to throw it a lot regardless of who is at QB. They would be stoopid not to.

Some more info. VMI has rushed for a total of 456 yds all season averaging 2.4 per rush. Theyaverage 76 ypg rushing. They rushed for -2 yds against UTC Saturday, They throw the ball two-thirds of the time so it could be another long day for the D. Gonns be s lot of balls in the air come Saturday. Their qb that played against UTC was a freshman playing in his first game and he completed 75% of his passes for 158 yds 0 TD and 1 int. If he completed 75% against UTC he could go 90+% against FU.

Somewhat surprisingly, Furman is now averaging over 30 ppg on offense. Huge improvement. 3rd in the SoCon in total offense. 1st in rushing offense.

Even with the WCU game, the defense is surrendering 21.7 ppg. That's not outstanding, but not bad either. 3rd in sacks. 2nd in interceptions.

This is a can't lose game for Furman.

This is a must win by a big margin game. Keep the foot on the pedal. Score on the last play of the game with a big lead. A shut-out is critical.

This is the game to moving from running on 6 cylinders to 8! Rev it up for Chatty and peak right on time. All phases of the game need to be mistake free.

No doubt VMI will chuck the punkin this weekend. Lucky for us they prolly don't have the speed to burn us the way WCU did.

Put them away early so it doesn't come down to a "butt-fumble" like it did two years ago.

Furman 30 - VMI 24

Here are a few thoughts after listening to the coach's show today…

Jace Wilson has decided to redshirt. He announced that to the coaches before The Citadel game.
Carson Jones is now Furman's number 2 the rest of the way this season.

Here's what I heard CCH say about the 4th quarter's defensive performance.

Lapse in execution, could they have made some better calls to counter what Western was doing—yes.
There was a comment about the defense acting like Western was more talented than they were. The defense set back on its heels - was disappointed Furman got zero pressure on the Western QBs.
The Western we saw and the way they called the game was not the same time that played the week before.

Sounds like Jace preparing to enter the portal.

Hope not but that would make the most sense given the timing. I am not sure the grass will be any greener if this is the case.

I spoke with the parent of a young man who is local to the Greenville area and was a Shrine Bowl defensive player. He currently attends an ACC University and is graduating in May. He will have two years of eligiblity left. Parent indicated he wants to come home and is entering the portal with eyes on Furman and the gamecocks.
