FURMAN Fans at Wofford Today

That tells you a lot about where FU is and maybe even Wofford. Almost no Furman fans. Another indication about what will put butts in the seats is winning, pure and simple. All the other marketing is for those looking for Saturday afternoon entertainment. Many are just looking for a winning football team.

Not sure which stadium you were at today, but the one I was in Furman was playing Wofford and delivering a dominant performance, while being supported by a good contingent of purple people. We didn’t pack our side, but we had a good crowd that was loud and proud. It’s negative comments like this that has run off many posters on this forum. It’s not helpful. A good percentage of Wofford fans left early. No so with our fans.

My apologies if everyone went to get something to eat at halftime. At halftime I don’t think there were 100 fans on the visitor’s stands. I never saw the stands during the game itself. Glad we had a decent turnout.

During halftime, many of us retreated to the back of the stands to get some shade. The sun was warm this afternoon.

I haven't been to Gibbs in years, but I well remember that sun hammers the visitor sideline all afternoon.

Exactly, that sun was intense today. Haven’t seen it for last 6 days.

Radio broadcast said that today was the first Win at Gibbs since 2008. That's a great feeling!

Even worse - it was the first win there since 2006! Hard to believe.

A lot of that period of time was the darkest years Furman has had in decades coinciding with the best Wofford has ever been.

Of course, after having to play 5 of the last 7 games in Spartanburg, losing there for a number of years, and having them cancel this spring's game (a Furman home game), going over there and putting the wood to them was fun.
