I just don’t understand why they’re even thinking about moving away from their current mascot/logo.

Fairy Princess Bulldog has served them well for almost 180 years. Why change now? Thought they were all about tradition down there.

All 3 are ugly, but that new Citadel one is the ugliest. Whoever came up with that should be fired.

If Samford's bulldog is "Sam", then Citadel's should be "Samsonite".

They are always searching for an identity!

We best not throw rocks. We've got the ugly knight's head. Does anyone think Clemson would ever add another image?

It's kinda hard to knock logos when they've kicked our butts the last 2 in a row. And the last 5 out of 7.

This discussion does not deserve to be in the Furman football forum.

Your perspective is unreasonably skewed with recency bias

Meetings total: 100
All-time series: Furman, 60–37–3
Longest win streak: 9, Furman (1982–1990)

I would agree with you, however, I don't think we should ever lose to the bellhops! or the guys over in Spartanburg,

The Wofford logo looks like the terrier's facial expression at that exact moment when he first realizes that he's on the way to the vet for a scheduled double testicle removal.

Mascot marks fall into trends.

Probably the reason some of you dislike the Paladin mark is IMO its youthfulness (anime-superhero influence) it was designed by a Furman student at the time.

If you don't like that style you won't like that look. By the way, based on Twitter usage that mark is popular with an important audience of high school athletes. And another factor to keep in mind -- it stimulates merch sales.

IMO, The Citadel would be best served by creating a Block C mark and then trying to build some heritage around it. Instead, it's just another Bulldog icon in a landscape of similar style icons.

Furman - has a diamond. Furman has an icon. The diamond F has a heritage, a story, a myth, it represents a meaning that can be told by coaches and players. And it's timeless.

P.S. I say all this as a person who for years tried to get Furman to adopt a Paladin mark, I designed the Paladin mark under the Bobby Johnson era. Flagman - might have a photo of that mark around. So take what I say with a grain of salt.

Interesting. You know, the anime trend is already not what it was. Kids may still look at anime in the closet, but they DO NOT want to be grouped in with the “anime kids” which right or wrong translates to “weird kids” meaning the ones who wear all black, have jet black or multicolored hair and have a higher likelihood of participating in the current “trans” fad. These are mostly nice kids, but they aren’t sports fans. So hanging onto a logo that targets them is a hoot.

About that diamond. Is that a Sheridan thing? I heard somewhere that he imported it from Lower Richland and then took it to NC State. Somewhere along the line we (North Augusta) started using it as an homage to our favorite hometown football hero (next to Charlie Waters).

I’m in a minority of one or two who liked the old cartoon of a Paladin on his horse. I associate that with the era when Furman truly was sort of fearsome in basketball. But the 80’s look is ok with me. It would be great to pick a logo and a set of uniforms and stick with them. Pretty much all good programs do that.

The diamond F was not a "Sheridan thing". Others know the exact event that brought about the diamond F, I don't. But it was created by a student. His last name escapes me, Dennis....? It was during the early Sheridan years.
