Good article by Scott Keeler now on Greenville News website ( at https://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/ ... 7244675002 ) that answers a lot of questions about spring results, QB situation and fall expectations.

Not a whole lot of insight into our issues other than that our QB didn’t play real well.He won’t nor should he go into all our issues but fall will be the be the real test on where this team and staff really are.

Doesn't seem to think there were any big problems. No major injuries. No opt outs. No covid problems. No attitude problems. No backup quarterback, but QB1 didn't get hurt so it didn't matter that much. He again suggests that we were oh so close to a really good season. The only thing to work on is getting a backup ready in case HS goes down. At least the new guys will get to compete, but what else was he gonna say? Those guys watched the season. If they don't believe they can do better, who needs them?

Do we know for sure that CH isn't the Jackal? (Sorry Jackal but your optimism is a little over the top sometimes.)

I'm sure this was all just BS coach speak, but it makes him seem sort of out of it. No sense of urgency at all. That's probably because he know's he has total job security, but I wish he'd at least pretend to be more upset and motivated.

Great news that Shiflett is finally going to get a shot at QB and hopefully he will return. Agree Furmanoid, CCH never seems to get upset like we do. I truly would like for him to get upset/mad just once. That is just not his M.O. Would have loved to heard some comments on what was wrong with the offensive line and why they all of a sudden could not block anyone. Also good to hear that he does know about the transfer portal. He didn’t come right out and say it but he obviously has doubts that HS is the future. A shame that the fall season got canned. Highly likely DG would still be on the team if it had not.

What you happy if he called out players, or if he talked about how terrible things are, or if he called out specific coaches? Believe me, Clay Hendrix is motivated to be a winner. He does not need to say so to be so.

He kinda did call out one player. Reading between the lines he pretty much dumped it all in one guy’s lap. He could have at least hinted that the OL’s performance was suboptimal (such that only those guys would know exactly which of the 5 he was talking about) but he didn’t do that.

Maybe that was an oversight. Or maybe he really does believe that the OL was ok but put in an impossible bind by that other guy. That was my theory until the last game or two. If that’s his thinking and he and I are right about that, we are a player away from undefeated.

But there’s no telling what he really thinks. There really isn’t much point in interviewing him.

I don't think Hendrix was scape goating the QB performance as much as he was acknowledging it was a problem and steps were being taken to fix it.

Adding scholarship QBs to the roster is an easy fix. Whatever the hell is going on with our Offensive line is not.

Scape goating is a strong term, but the only thing he dwells on is adding scholarship QB’s ( and actually the walk on they got looks pretty good). Having more scholarship guys watching the games doesn’t help at all. They only help if they are playing. So when the only opportunity for improvement he identifies is a need for more QB’s, seems like he’s either saying nothing needs fixing (it was bad luck or swamp gas or a miasma or something) or he’s saying all we need is a better QB. Or he’s just saying nothing at all (which is probable).

I hope he really thinks we can fix it with improvement at one spot, because, like you say, that’s pretty easy compared to fixing the OL.

I don't expect any coach to put out an excell spread sheet of every problem area within their football program for fans and rival coaches in the local paper.

I'm sure Hendrix has many things he wants to tackle and ideas about how fix them on top of what he is telling the Greenville news.

Can we pretend our coach might have an inkling of what he is doing for a bit and may not be in complete denial for a bit? I'm not saying he is taking the football program in the right direction but let's at least assume he can wipe his own butt...

This is NOT (I REPEAT NOT) an indictment of Sisson or anybody for that matter. I am just glad to see CH and others acknowledge that you don't have 1 scholarship QB on the roster - E V E R. I don't care if it is Tom Brady. Many of us said as much here on the UFFP and then were told " oh, it will be fine". I don't want to be right.. I want to win a national title and be "oh so wrong". But in this case all you had to do was look around D1 football - almost no one carries one QB. Heck, having two QB's they liked basically gave a once in forever SoCon title to VMI. Again, NOT an indictment of Sisson. VMI is a great example, Udinski went down, freshman on scholarship jumps right in. He was ready. SOCON TITLE - and they earned it.. Kudos to VMI. Definitely some bum luck w our Qb scholarships I know.. Still, I can't recall the last time we faced a team w one scholarship qb. . Sisson should be one of our QBs - I hope he is Tom Brady !! But everyone needs some competition and a fail safe also. Sometimes throwing a new QB out there jumpstarts the O. To his credit, Sisson did that very thing as he came in and got us going at UTC in the prior season (2019 fall) and led us to a great W when DG was struggling.. He did great. As a TEAM guy you should always want 2 or 3 QBs on scholarship.

That said, I hope HS leads us to a National Title !

I don't ever want to see people justifying one QB again. It's just too risky

And yes, the OL and WRs did little to help. I think the RBs were good but negated by the OL and then all the pressure falls on the passing game... which is a recipe for a .500 season

Could be the reason CH did not address the OL is that many of them are graduating. We will have a rebuilt OL this fall and that may fix that problem - or not.

I do not believe it was anyone's plan to have just one scholarship QB on roster this spring. I think that was a product of unforeseen circumstances the coaching staff had very little control over.

So what do we do this fall if 3 qbs on scholarship all go down to injury? Should we have 4 or 5 on scholarship? I'm not defending the way we played this Spring, but some things are beyond control.
