Just kidding (prior post)...

I don’t think you’ll see that until game notes are published. Best you can get right now is probably WCU’s digital program from their game with UNC last Fall - page 16

We've tap-danced around depth-charts for Furman - based on the position break-down reviews.
I'd hold tight till we see the Game Notes released from Sports Information.
I would look for a very fluid depth chart it appears Furman will rotate at some positions three deep.

I think there are really only two question marks -

1. Who starts at safety (likely opposite DiMarcus Clay)

2. Who will handle the kicking/punting?

Based on a quote by Clay, I'd expect true freshman Jack Rhodes to start at FS.
Hugh Ryan and Austin Jones to backup.

2. Who will handle the kicking/punting?
The specialist review just came out late afternoon. Bleekrode will punt and kick field goals, Leavy will backup
Axel Lepvreau will kickoff and possibly kick on longer field goal attempts

Bell and Anderson will return kicks, Chizik will return punts

we've not talked much about Jack Rhodes but he was a big get (chose Furman over Coastal and AFA a bunch of FCS offers). Jack was also 7-A All-State for Milton at LB and DB.

I'd go ahead and add freshmen Ivan Yates and Micah Robinson to the DB depth chart. They were mentioned in the review as part of the depth to allow Furman to do some packages they've not employed before.

Also at Bandit with McKoy injured another freshman has gotten a lot of practice experience - I'd add Luke Clark (6-3, 224) I'd expect him to see some PT.

Last addition - I'd expect to see Ben Page get some snaps at TE. With the possibility of Furman using two-tight end sets, I think we will see several combinations of Miller/Walker/Page.

Two things I am interested to see out of our offense.

First, I'd like to see how we utilize multiple TE looks. I have no reason to think this, but given our personnel, I could see Furman use Miller or Abrams as a bit of an H Back. Abrams, obviously, isn't a TE, but has a similar physical build to Miller and could be used both as a blocker and pass catcher out of the backfield.

Second, I am interested in how much, if any, RPO we might see from Furman. Little nuggets dropped in videos suggest that we may see a fair amount of those sorts of offensive sets.

I think we are going to look a lot different offensively than the wing-t look Hendrix unveiled in 2017.

I'm going to take a guess and say the April 17th home matchup against the Terriers will be for the auto-bid.
I thought it would be interesting to look at how the 21 Dins stack up against the 21 Terriers in the trenches. Depth appears to be an issue on both sides of the ball for the Terriers, as well as the size of the Terriers in the trenches. Based on what I've read on the Terrier forum and reading the official stuff - any injuries along the lines of Wofford and it won't be pretty.

What we know about Furman based on past seasons and position reviews by CCH Furman has put a high value on depth, physicality, and athletism. Based on the numbers of losses in the off-season for Wofford this will be a challenge in the spring. In last year's matchup, I hate to admit it I thought the Dins got pushed around a bit. When we look into the future physically speaking things have flipped.

LT ANDERSON TOMLIN (6-5, 292, R-So.) // LT Zak Kurz (6-5, 280, Jr.)
LG REED KROEBER (6-4, 305, R-Sr.) // LG Elliott Campbell (6-6, 290, So.)
C EVAN JUMPER (6-4, 274, So.) // C Al Hogan (6-4, 315, So.)
RG JACOB JOHANNING (6-3, 265, R-Fr.) // RG Chad Gardner (6-2, 290, Jr.)
RT BO MCKINNEY (6-7, 308, R-Jr.) // RT Quashon Greenlee (6-2, 295, So.)

Furman rounds out to 6 feet - 5 inches / Wofford 6 feet - 3 inches
Furman's weight rounds out to an average of 288 / Wofford 294 * this is a deceptive comparison. Jumper and Johanning are very athletic players, Johanning is the best weight-room performer for Furman. When you add Neely (6-3 283) and Harris (6-4 305) into the starting positions the weight total shifts to Furman.

Next Defensive Line comparisons. This is a bit like comparing apples to oranges since the teams play different base defenses. BUT - this is where things have changed from the 2019 matchup to the upcoming 2021 matchups.

DE LANDON LAWRENCE (6-3, 270, Sr.) // LDE Tanner Barnes (6-3, 250, So.)
Dru Seabrook (6-3, 242, R-Sr.) // Jacob Drag (6-4, 245, Fr.)
Jeremiah Jackson (6-0, 252, Fr.)
NG CAMERON COLEMAN (6-3, 310, R-So.) // NT Elijah Ball (6-3, 255, So.)
London Lewis (6-4, 291, R-Jr.) // Corey Prince (6-0, 280, Jr.)
Seth Johnson (6-1, 297, Fr.) // James Garnett (5-11, 280, So.)
DT MATT SOCHOVKA (6-4, 289, R-Jr.) // RDE 99 Michael Mason (6-3, 255, So.)
Parker Stokes (6-0, 288, Sr.) // Cameron Woolery (6-0, 240, Fr.)
Jack Barton (6-4, 264, R-Fr.)

Furman is listing 3-deep along the line, we know this is going to play out on the field, our DC rotates linemen. Wofford I've read is having to use a few walk-on linemen to get some depth.

Furman's height average comes out to 6 feet .33 inches // Wofford 6 feet 3 inches
Furman's average weight per man is not even close… FU 288.6 per man // WC 258 per man
The interesting thing in Furman's case is the depth listed can pound on you… Furman has three 290+ pound NGs.

I am not sold on Wofford yet. This is really Conklin's first run at things without a roster full of Mike Ayer's players.

Their fans rightly highlight their depth concerns. They are, generously, replacing a lot of bodies of last years team and will rely heavily on young and/or untested players.

I also wonder if the coaching staff changes aren't a canary in a coal mine. The Terrier's have lost a few defensive assistants over the last week or two, and their head coach is reportedly pushing for an FBS coordinator job. It makes you wonder whether we will get into the season and find that the emperor has no clothes.

I say that recognizing that you cannot take away what Wofford has accomplished the last few years. They should not be underestimated. However, that was then. This is now.

Jackal - you've already mentioned this -since the last game played on Nov. 30, 2019… Furman had a full spring practice in 2020. Started fall practice, stopped, and concentrated on strength and conditioning. Furman comes into this spring practice with a matured physical team of experienced players and a highly recruited class that has had a lot of time in the program.

Can't wait to see the Dins on the field Saturday.

The key of course is putting it together on the field.

At some level, games are won in the weight room. At another level, they are won on the field.

Exactly... WOfford HAS beaten us by pushing us around the past few years (damn twice in one year). To say otherwise would be to deny the obvious. Their DL and OL have beaten us - at least once or twice pretty badly (last year and in the playoff game I think).. It stinks. But it is truth. The other truth is that the SoCon, as a whole, hasn't done well in the playoffs recently. Again, truth

Let's see where we are this spring.. hopefully we get a conference title ! And then we can try to forget Austin Peay (damnit) with at least one playoff win - though that is a harder ask this year as only the best 16 will be taken.
