Spring Football TV?

We're getting close to the start of the season, and there's still not been any mention (that I can see) regarding TV coverage for the games. There's nothing on the schedule, there's no mention of it on ESPN or ESPN+, etc. Usually Furman is pretty forthcoming in the weeks before the season about TV coverage. Anyone got any info?

Great question BackupQB!!!
Here is what I know.....

Furman University has created a new and diverse group known as The Committee of Sustainability and Preservation. The group, nicknamed SAP, is currently studying how waves from satellite trucks might have a negative influence on the migratory patterns of birds that pass through campus during February and early March. Early reports indicate that the Guido Goose responds poorly to these waves and it might hurt their flight to New Jersey.

Don’t even utter that the games may not be broadcast.

My tongue-in-cheek commentary around #StormTheStadium may become a whole lot more real if the games are not on ESPN3/ESPN+

Agree. Do not speak this into existence.

Keep in mind that Furman has no control over whether or not the games will be televised. So far, only one FCS game on tv has been announced. It’s the McNeese at Tarleton State game scheduled for February 13, on ESPN+.

Don’t forget about this tweet from Sam Herder that was posted several weeks ago. He is still saying the likelihood of televised spring FCS games is low.

”televised” on ESPN / ESPN2 / ESPNU et al vs. streamed on ESPN3 / ESPN+ is Apples vs. Kumquats.

The SoCon has a contract to enabling schools (using their own production resources) to stream the games on 3/+

I don’t know the exact terms of the agreement, but it has been in place for several years & other than schools and/or the SoCon deciding not to support the Production of games, I can’t imagine any reason why ESPN would withdraw their end of the deal. The ‘rona didn’t shrink their ‘pipes.’

If you read Sam Herder’s 2/2 Tweet, he’s referring to ‘airing’ games ON TOP of existing streaming of games.

As Furmanoid said, PLEASE STOP trying to speak this into existence. FUBeAR’s mental health (always a potential oxymoron in my case) is exceedingly fragile at present! Please remember, I am a recent ‘rona Victim / Survivor and may be suffering from some of the long-term mental health issues associated with it....and, of course, from the persistent ED.

I'm sure our Admin will find a way NOT to spend the $ on streaming......we HAVE to get the lake back to it's original footprint and depth before it's too late!!!!!!

In a time when every kid wants to go to college, we reduce enrollment. Mars Hill will be bigger than us in a few years and I didn't make that up. New president pushing for 3K

3,000 is more than the current enrollment.

I am going to repeat myself until you guys get it. Furman does not control games on tv. It's all handled by the conference. Stop the nonsense and petty posts. It makes me sick to see the hatred toward Furman. By the way, U.S. undergraduate enrollment dropped 4% from 2019 to 2020. If you want some facts, Mars Hill fall enrollment in 2019 was 960. It dropped to 938 in fall of 2020. In 2017, Mars Hill had about 1,200 students. The "new" president is not doing a very good job. https://www.citizen-times.com/story/new ... 160150002/

TV games. That's all I wanted to know about. What the heck just happened? Maybe I should have known better.

I hope the SoCon comes through.

OK - looks like SoCon re-upped w/ESPN for 6 more years on 11/10/20...mid-Pandemic.

https://barrettsportsmedia.com/2020/11 ... onference/

So...why, again, are YOU saying, “the likelihood of televised spring FCS games is low.” You said Sam Herder said it, but he was NOT talking about games streaming on ESPN3 & ESPN+.

The likelihood of SoCon being TELEVISED over traditional airwaves / cable has been LOW for many, many years. That’s “the sun is hot” sort of breaking news.

Every SoCon Football game has been streamed over ESPN3/ESPN+ for the past several years http://www.thefutoncritic.com/news/201 ... 721espn04/. Some schools took a year to upgrade facilities, etc...some started in 2015 & some in 2016.

Are you saying Furman and/or any other SoCon is NOT going to produce/stream their Football games this Spring? If not, why not?

Or, are you saying the SoCon is mandating that schools not perform / utilize the contract the SoCon signed 3 months ago? If so why not?

In addition to streaming, video is required for play review, so the investment has already been made in equipment and facilities. Chillax, we'll be able to see our games.

Forgive me for responding with frustration toward the nonsense spewed by Fred Garvin. I am saying it’s not up to Furman to announce any games on ESPN+. The SoCon will make the announcement. I expect we will hear about the games on ESPN+ very soon. I also except to hear about a few games on Nexstar, if enough sponsors can be found. Go Paladins.

Thanks!

Go easy on me, Flag. I’m a mentally/emotionally/ED affected ‘rona survivor compounded by being deep in the throes of Furman, SoCon, FCS Football withdrawal!

As insane as FUBeAR thinks it is to not allow a limited number of socially-distanced, masked fans to attend a Football game in an outdoor stadium; it doesn’t take much of a leap for my addled brain/heart to imagine some person in a high-level-decision-making role to deem that the risk of having 15-20 ‘extra’ (non-essential) camera / audio / production / on-air talent peeps to attend a game is just too great.

Does it?

I'll make sure to relay your thoughts the next time I talk with him. We are so blessed to have someone like "E.D." leading our school. I guess you are happy with the ending of graduate programs? We have to promote "The Furman Advantage." How is that one working out for us?

BTW, I don't spew nonsense. I would like to see one positive plan by our administration to promote Furman football that was not initiated by those that played Furman football.
