Just moved to this area in beginning of year, attended many of the boys and girls basketball games at Timmons and Bon Secour and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Purchased football season tickets (hoping we have a season), I enjoyed the offense and defense articles, would like someone to explain the QB situation? Thanks

Welcome to the area and the Furman family!! Furman has 2 young but somewhat experienced QB’s. Both are R-Sophs. Darren Grainger and Hamp Sisson. Both played a lot last year with Grainger playing the most. DG started the season and played very well, especially against Ga. State and Virginia Tech, then went into a slump. HS replaced him during the game at UTC and led the Paladins to a comeback win. By the seasons end Grainger was back at QB. Both have shown they are capable but also inconsistent. Right now I think most think Grainger has the edge. He is tall and relatively fast and has a good arm but has been prone to mistakes.

I think it'll be the same as last year. It's Grainger's job to lose. If he plays like he did against Georgia State, he could be a Walter Payton Award finalist. If he plays like he did against Western and others, HS will be the starter. I'm really excited to see how both grew in the offseason. We have the potential to be loaded at QB for the next few years.

That's my observation.

None of what I saw last year was shocking to me. We had two freshmen QBs and, at times, they looked like freshmen QBs. This will be the season for both guys to take a big step forward.

The good news is that we have two quality options at QB.
