So PC was the mystery guest....

As expected.

I like our off week coming later in the year.

While I don't like playing a big matchup in Week 1, that may benefit Furman more than Wofford.

Furman gets Wofford at home. Wofford will be breaking in a number of new players on offense, including a QB. Wofford still seems like they want to modify their offense, but may be reluctant to do so in a major conference road game early in the year.

I really like this schedule. Would obviously prefer 6 home games out of 11, but that's not going to happen often in this day and age. Glad we have an all D1 schedule. Like having PC after our bye ... should be an easy win even if we have a little bit of rust like this year. Big part of the schedule is vs. Samford, @ Mercer and @ Citadel. Not hard to envision a scenario where we're 6-1 heading on the road to The Citadel. Think there's the potential for a lot more, but I don't want to get too ahead of myself 9 months out.

I wonder when we will have to return the game to PC? I thought and was hoping we were done going to Clinnon. I don't see a return date possible until at least 2026.
2021 ooc complete
2022 ooc complete
2023 2 road games sceduled-need home game
2024 2 road games scheduled-need 2 home games(12 game schedule)
2025 ooc complete

We've played PC a handful of times in the past without returning to Clinnon ('07 & '09 come to mind). I'm confident this is another such scenario. They'll be non-scholarship FCS Independent for 2020 and need to fill a schedule. Once they're in the Pioneer starting in 2021 I doubt they'll be throwing much money at any OOC opponents.

That was my thinking as well. I can't imagine we would go on the road to a non-scholarship team under any normal circumstances.

We also played them in 2001 and 2004 without return trips to their place. Important to note that all four of these games were back when they were D2...but playing non-scholarship football is a similar scheduling scenario. If you look at Pioneer teams' OOC home schedules they are almost exclusively made up of NAIA and D2 schools.

Good question. When was the last time homecoming was in November. Maybe they scheduled HC to help boost attendance for this game?

I doubt it.

Homecoming is always always scheduled in late October or early November. Going back ten or so years, I couldn't find a single instance where Furman played a homecoming game in early October.

We are on the road next season the last two weeks of October, so the next available home date is the PC game.

Amazing the difference in schedule when App State and Ga Southern were in the conference. Constant change is here to stay and it is what it is.

Do what now?

In 2012, the last 11 game season before GSU/App departed, Furman (1) opened the season against a SoCon opponent (Samford), (2) played a Big South school in week 2 (Coastal), (3) played an FBS school in Week 3 (Clemson), and (4) played Presbyterian. Sounds familiar.

So, if your point is to say Furman now plays VMI, ETSU, and Mercer instead of Georgia Southern, App, and Elon, then sure. We play the teams in the conference.

The schedule is what it is. I accept it for 2020, of course. However, for the future I stand by my strategy as stated in post #23383, 12/27/19, 1:44 PM.

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
