Quick stats comparison with APSU

Similar in many ways but some key differences.

Points per game very similar for both team -
Furman scores 36 ppg, APSU scores 35 ppg. Furman allows 19 ppg, APSU gives up 21 ppg.

Different offensive focus.
APSU is much more of a passing team. They pass for about 100 yards per game more than the Paladins. Furman runs for 90 yards per game more.

Defensively, APSU only allows 86.5 ypg on the ground, Furman allows 178 ypg. On the other hand, they give up 213 ypg through the air to the Paladins 159 ypg. Could be a offensive stylistic difference between the OVC and SoCon (including OOC scheduling.)

APSU are subpar in punting - only 35 ypk versus Furman's 43 ypk. Something to watch. We were good on 11/13 FGs, they made 11/18.

APSU is penalty prone. They committed 107 that cost them 88 ypg. Furman committed 46 that cost 37 ypg. APSU committed about twice the average for either an OVC or SoCon team.

Furman had a clear edge in TD scoring percentage in the red zone - 84% to 69%.

1) "APSU is much more of a passing team" - GOOD.

2) "Defensively, APSU only allows 86.5 ypg on the ground" - BAD

3) THE KEY - "they give up 213 ypg through the air " - Can we capitalize by completing a decent percentage of our passes ??? I would like to see us throw some easy ones early to get QB confident.. these QBs can certainly do it but a good start would probably help breed confidence

Stats aside, APSU is going to try to do what every other team tries to do - load the box, pressure late, try to stop the run and force Furman to beat them through the air.

A same team comparison I looked at when I saw they only allow 87 yards per game on ground !

- Furman allowed Mercer basically 120 yards on ground on 30 attempts.. 4 yards per carry
- APy allowed same Mercer team 40 yards on 30 carries for ... average of 1.4 yards per carry.. so that's using a Same Team comparison. They can stop the run.. particularly on the interior DL if I recall .. big ol boys there. Because stopping a team with Tyray Devezin for 1.4 yards per carry? Thats GOOD.

As they should. Two teams had the athletes to do it... as you say, if you got the athletes to do it it can definitely work against us. Get some easy passes to the outside going. Just screens and 5 yarders

Well, lets look at the other game. ETSU rushed for 150 vs. AP and 167 vs. FU. ETSU threw for 171 vs. AP and 123 vs. FU

I’ll take offensive yards per game for 100 Alex.

Furman, +6 advantage on the above stats, giving equal weight to each stat. I like our chances. We have played well on the road. Now is the time to "LEAVE NO DOUBT!

We already left doubt - Citadel//Woff. That’s over. Move on and need to “work on consistent passing game ”.

As to your + 6 then bet big... Vegas has us a 1 point favorite. Personally I would take Furman -1 if I bet
