Wofford back to doing Wofford things, but still opted to pass on critical downs late in the game. Their pass defense is very suspect. I know our game is two months away, but Grainger should have a field day against this group.

I wasn't impressed with either Samford or Wofford.

Austin Peay blocks a Mercer punt and drives on a short field for a touchdown. They just got a pick six. Goes from 13-13 to 27-13 very quickly.

Western is going to survive 20-17 over North Greenville.

WCU's Adams didn't play for the second week in a row. Anyone know how long he is out?

Mercer's Riddle just throws his second pick six. That'll probably do it for Mercer tonight.

Watching the Mercer/AP game man Riddle forces a lot of passes.

AP with their second pick 6, now 41-20. Amazing what happens when you play tight coverage. The defender picked it in FRONT of the receiver and had a clear path to the end zone. We never have that problem because we are always 5 yards behind the receiver. :D

THIS. I said the same thing in my scout Mercer thread. when is the last time we had two pick six? really asking

Also to show it is possibble to defend the pass - Georgia State lost today FIFTY SEVEN to 10. yes, 57-10 to ... Western michigan !! Thats not encouraging - before I catch heck, I am always told MAC teams aren't good. OK. if MAC teams arent good how did they CURB STOMP ( that verbiage courtesy of FUBeAR) GSU and hold them to ten points ?

When we do make a INT its behind the guy like today where the VT guy tipped a pass that was too high and it fell to our DB .. but its not a jump the route thing...

This is just my initial hot take.

Mercer's got some talented players on offense, but APSU is handing Furman a playbook on how to defense the Bears. The Govs have all but eliminated Mercer's running game (something Furman didn't do last year).

APSU has been able to pressure Riddle and take away Devezin. Good gameplan for beating them.

It's not about "tight coverage", in my opinion.

Riddle is a talented QB, but Mercer really doesn't have a receiver that's going to blow by a defense. APSU has eliminated Mercer's running game and are hitting the QB nearly every time he drops back.

Defensively, if I know your QB doesn't have a ton of time to throw, that you can't really run it, and you've got no one that's going to run by my safeties, then I know you are going to throw it and I have a pretty good idea of where you are going to throw it.

If a defense knows you aren't running it, and can't go downfield, they can start jumping routes underneath, which is what they did.
