this is not exactly correct. NOT a huge deal at all ... but technically BC is 2-0 and gives a little insight. They beat VT 35-28 and they played yesterday and beat Richmond 45-13. so BC is 2-0

VT lost close to BC on the road and that score looks much better than the ODU score. VT appears to have looked much better vs BC than ODU considering comp level etc

despite the ODU score I have to think VT has more quality depth and players than Georgia State. Just my perception in general based on years of recruiting etc. If most kids were offered VTech or GSU I think most go to VTech w ACC affiliation etc.

Last year VT -
beat the shiznit out of FCS William and Mary 62 - 17
beat FSU 24-3
LOST to ODU in a shocker (maybe ODU system gives them trouble)? 49 ODU - 35 VT
Beat decent Duke team (NY Giants QB) handily VT 31 - Duke 14
LOST to Notre Dame who was very good 45-23
Beat UNC 22-19
LOST to GTECH running the option all over them 49 - 28
LOST to BC
LOST to Pitt
LOST to Miami
Beat a good UVA team
Beat Marshall

very Jekyl and Hyde - they had a lot of injuries to be fair.

If I am an FU coach would I prefer to play this game in rain conditions or clear sun?

Their QB is better than anybody we currently have on the roster. Could be a long day for the D.

Pretty remarkable the level of disrespect from others on the board considering they lost to ODU last year, James Madison a few years before that and only beat Furman in 2008 24-7 (believe it was 10-0 at half). 2015 was brutal against the Hokies, but our other FBS games have been pretty close in recent years ... GSU, Michigan State, Florida, etc.

2008 was actually 3-0 at Halftime, only because we had a crap FBS ACC ref call that brought back our TD pass, otherwise we would have been leading 7-3 at the half

And yep Beat UCF, should have beaten GA. St., and very nearly beat Michigan St. and Florida as you point out

But honestly a good many of these people don't know much about football outside of ACC and a little FBS so they are not much in tune with the entire national landscape of college football

VT is underrated if you look at their scores only. They had FIVE TURNOVERS vs BC and almost won (lost 35-28). A negative four TO ratio! That usually equates to getting blown out !

Vs ODU VT had a negative 2 turnover ratio and still cruised. Despite those turnovers, VT was up 24-3 in 3rd quarter so those scores are a bit deceiving - if they cut out turnovers they would be 2-0 with a win on road vs BC. Pretty shocking they had -4 turnover ratio vs ACC foe Boston College and were even in the game. As someone once said, you can look at turnover ratio and -2 or more = a 90% odd you will lose. The fact they overcame that vs a 'decent' ODU team says they are stronger than these scores.

It is encouraging that ODU ran for 200 yards versus VT and averaged 4.7 per carry. That's what I like to hear ! Also encouraging is VT runs more than they pass.. vs ODU at least. VT ran 39 times and passed 28 times. I like that. The scary part is VT was very effective passing going 16/28 going for 270 yards 2TDs and 0 picks...

possible that starting DE, CB and Center out? RG too? Rb Holston out - " Virginia Tech will be without defensive back Jovonn Quillen, defensive end TyJuan Garbutt, right guard T.J. Jackson and wide receiver Damon Hazelton in the home opener against Old Dominion on Saturday.
