The straw really snapped for me:

1- while I think 5 should have been the QB or at least given more rope early on, why in the world would they make the change today? Whats the point? If you are developing 8 on the job, why give him time off? Was burning 8s redshirt worth it? 5 looked tough running. Missed a couple throws, but completed quite a few that we haven’t been. There also seemed to be a lot of team love for 5. You know they have seen and felt the “battle”

2- SNAPS! CCH is an OL guy. He knows the details.

3- if you are a performing freshman this year, would you come back next year? I do not expect to see some of our young up and comers next year.

4 - these last 2 games. What’s the objective? More 5 or back to 8? On the OL I would configure it for next year. 66/LT, 72/LG, 61/C, 79/RG, 51/RT.

we're wasting time fighting amongst ourselves. We need to rally together because we've got those bastages from ETSU to beat in six days. I don't think they're going to be the pushovers that some of others opponents have been.
…and, it’s possible that, right before the critical 4th quarter, they may, or may not, have Hootie (or someone posing as Hootie, which is not actually his name…or the name of the possibly presumptive poser…presumably), a South Carolinian, NOT lip synching to just 1 stanza of “Wagon Wheel” (which was written by a Minnesotan & made famous by a native Jersey boy…half a century ago) - the stanza that involves illegal drug use and going totally in the opposite of the stated intended direction in an 18-wheeler on curvy mountain highways.

Practically unbeatable!

If the center thing is such a problem there’s an easy fix. A rugby snap is a little slower than conventional, but almost foolproof and very easy for the QB to handle. And it may not actually be slower than our guy’s snaps. Looks like often he actually hesitates a hair. With confidence in a simpler motion, he might overcome that.

Stuff like this baffles me. If an old rec league coach knows this stuff…

In youth flag football, if the snap hits the ground the down is over. While the whistle doesn’t blow in college football, the down is about over.

Very few posts here after the game. I get the feeling people have just given up on this year. I’m mad but I still support them

Glad to see Luke Clark play today
Very few posts because there is nothing to say that hasn’t been said before. You support your team by going to games in person when you can. Posting or not posting on a message board has nothing to do with supporting your team!
Sure. but there IS something new that hasn’t been posted. I stated - ironically in this very post - that I was glad to see Luke Clark on the field today! And I was. Glad he gets to play a little more in his Senior year. That is both positive and had NOT been said before !

I think players do appreciate seeing someone say they were glad and noticed they were back healthy ! I would. Means people noticed you and appreciated your effort
44 had a big time tackle to give us a chance there late in the 4th. I was also glad to see him back.
ALlTimeFU, Yes he did ! A monster tackle. Mr. Clark is a great player and tough. you are right... his stop gave us a shot

Don’t think anyone mentioned but the score was the same as last year. 😳

I'm not at practice every day, but my supposition is that coaches are going with the QB that is more likely to take care of the football.

I think you sort of saw the issue most acutely in the VMI game - forcing throws into coverage or holding on to the ball too long looking for chunk plays that weren't there. Those lead to interceptions, fumbles, and unnecessary hits.

I'm not necessarily worried about the transfer portal as much as others. This is a young team, they're going to grow together, and Furman has an extremely high retention rate.

CCH emphasized taking care of the ball by 5 even though he missed on a couple throws they would like to have back.

You are so right! Thanks.
And that was a 13-19 loss to Wofford by a highly successful team, so this year’s team can say, “see, we’re really not so bad”.
Furthermore, immediately after last year’s 13-19 loss to Wofford, Furman went on to an impressive win over Chattanooga and a highly competitive game at Montana in which Furman and Montana were tied at the end of 4th quarter. So maybe Furman will have something good happen in this year’s last 2 games.

Missing on throws happens. That's part of the risk of throwing.

You can live with a bad throw to the right guy. We've had too many bad throws to the wrong guy.

Was it worth burning a red shirt on a two win team? They’re just seems to be more than meets the eye on some of the decisions. Whether it be the quick hook on five or continued snapping struggles at center with no change.

Also, referring to the question regarding low, slow and bouncing snaps to the quarterback as an “insightful observation“ is also a bit perplexing. I’m not sure how insightful that is.

Hard to know for sure what goes into the decision to burn the redshirt on Hedden. Clearly, the coaches thought that Hedden gave them the chance to win more games at the time. I have to trust them with that since they see those guys in practice and their livelihood depends on making the right choice there. The hook might have been a little quick on Jones, but you could also argue that a guy in his 3rd year with the program should be able to separate himself enough from a true freshman so that the leash wasn't so short.

I like things I've seen from both of the QBs. Carson is more willing to hit the check downs and work the short/intermediate more consistently than Hedden right now. Jones has missed some open big plays and Hedden has tried too hard to hit those big plays at times resulting in turnovers. More than anything though, neither have been helped by a bad run game and poor offensive line communication/bad snaps all year.

I have no skill in projecting the future of QBs, but I do feel like the ultimate upside of Hedden is probably better than Jones. Regardless of who the QB is next year, Furman has to figure out the OL and run game issues if they're going to be competitive.

Agree about the rushing game. We very well could finish the season with less than 1,000 yds rushing total. It can’t get much worse. Another thing is after Harris left the deep ball threat went too. Even though we tried a couple of deep balls Saturday they were well covered. Just not enough speed at the WR position now.

Colton Hinton is one of the fastest players in the SoCon and has had a tremendous year even though he is doubled on almost every pass play.
