New QB

Just an FYI. Furman got a commitment from a decent looking (I'm assuming wo) QB yesterday. Gabe Johnson, 6-5 211, ran a lot of RPO, looks to be a good athlete. Will definitely stand out in QB photo.

Hamp is being listed as a Junior. He had/has the option to play in the fall as a Sophomore. Being listed as a Junior (notice no redshirt Sophomore) tells me Hamp's last season of college ball will be 2022.

Shiflett is listed as Redshirt Sophomore for the fall.

Colt Minson should play in the fall as a Freshman.

Jace Wilson will be a freshman.

and now Gabe Johnson (walk-on) will be Freshman.

Never seen him play, but throwing for 2500+ yards with a 72% completion rate as a high school senior is nothing to sneeze at.

According to the press release, he had offers from Samford, VMI, and Monmouth, which are all among the top passing offenses in the FCS. So, odds are the kid can probably spin it.

It will be much different QB room this fall. By my count, Furman has added 5 QBs (including Shiflett). Some are walk-ons, but there's also going to be a nice pipeline of the scholarship guys that will provide depth and competition:

R-So - Shiflett
R-Fr - Minson
Fr - Wilson

^^^ Colt in that release his HS stats say he was a senior, I'm pretty sure in reality he was actually a junior - he graduated a year early. In this post, he's listed as reclassed. This move had to be influenced by COVID.

One more note on Minson - he had 7 offers on the table when he made that jump to Charlotte.
I'm guessing based on his production as a junior and continued maturity he would have had more offers on the table if he played a senior year. Looking forward to a big-armed gritty QB joining the team.

It's possible too that he was knocked because he's listed at 5'11 and not 6'3.
