Back to the task at hand. Maybe some of you do but I do not have a clue to how good this team is. We have seen a near perfect game sandwiched by 2 of the worst offensive performances in PS history. Not the worst but just 2 of the worst. I do believe this is the game of the year and is the make or break game. Win and we continue on and try to achieve all the goals. Lose and I am afraid it will be another wait till next year.
After the loss to the Citadel, every game becomes the most important game of the year. That's where we are.

I am still of the opinion that the team most likely to beat Furman is Furman. We've got a team that plays four tough quarters. They've been in tough games. They've won on the road. UTC doesn't present a personnel challenge in any serious respect. We've got a defense that can defend what they do and an offense that can get after them.

If we play a clean game and execute like I've seen us, I think we'll be happy with the result Saturday.

So if we win say 17-10, and we have less than 400 yds of total offense, are you going to be critical of this team? I'll take that the next three games. ;)

I just don't get the defeatist attitude. We have a lot of football left to play - enjoy it. I've enjoyed this season, the future looks very exciting. It's pretty obvious based on recruiting that young men want to play for Furman.

I've got my expectations in check. All we can hope for as fans is that our team's games are meaningful, every game from here on is. Not just for FU but also Wofford, Citadel, and UTC. Wofford has a bad hand from here on out. The rest of the season will test them physically IMO for the first time since the SCST game.

I think the last two weeks have been good for the Dins, no loss is a good loss but last week proven Furman took that loss in the rain against the Citadel and learned from it. Last weekend was set up for a Furman pitfall. Tyrie Adams playing, homecoming, rain, and more rain. This time Furman took the punch got up and played patient, and physical.

We all know 17-10 wins don't cut the mustard. They just don't. It's all about style points and scoring 40+ points a game with zero mistakes and no points allowed. With out that we may as well just lose.

I think a lot of us Furman fans struggle with this lol ... we are so desperate for national relevance and so hungry to support a champion, that any signs that we are good makes one immediately think we are the favorites for a title. That's why The Citadel game stung so bad ... I had convinced myself that we would win out and get a great draw and all of a sudden end up in the FCS semis on national TV. Same with hoops. After beating Villanova, anything other than an NCAA berth was going to be disappointing. Who knew Wofford would put together one of the best SoCon seasons ever? That's part of being a fan though right? Having unrealistic or high expectations and then having your soul ripped out if it doesn't go the way you thought.

i love that we won the SoCon in 2013 ! however, there were people that defended us on this board in 2013 as having a "sustainable system" of winning with that formula. Look, you can CREATE turnovers (some you certainly do create, some are luck like the opponent messing up on an easy handoff) but when you are averaging 40 yards less than the 8th worst team in the league in offense.. well, don't tell me you can sustain winning SoCon titles. And proof is in the pudding- we didn't. Instead the result was a coach that got fired. I hope we never average 320 yards a game of offense again.. but if we do and somehow manage 6-2 I don't want to hear that winning is sustainable like that. (unless every other team is averaging 200 yards of offense because of our D - :D )

Now, go on the road and lose to Pitt in 04 - that is exciting (as heartbreaking as it was for the one week).. because you could see the potential. and that year went pretty durn well. Sometimes you have to look at the long term

I have been told not to get worried about one drive or one quarter... I have been told to give the game time to play out. Agree. So I say let's take that logic to its next step - don't worry about one loss to an FBS - look at the much greater picture. Best talent / year in last 20 years? probably 2004 and they lost to Pitt.

“I think our passing game’s a little bit like the very first ball (Gordon) caught against (Western Carolina),” said Hendrix. “We make a better throw, it’s probably an easy touchdown. We ended up having to kick a field goal after that. We gave up a sack where we just got beat. I think our next throw, I think our freshman center didn’t cover up the nose guard and we get pressure and we’ve got two guys open. That’s just a little bit how it’s been.”

This guy is scary like Devezin for Mercer - I mean it (actually scared - :D ):
"They run the football extremely well. I think the back’s maybe the best back we’ve played against, counting Georgia State and Virginia Tech.”
That back is 5-foot-9, 205 freshman running back Ailym Ford, who is averaging almost 112 yards rushing per game this season, second-best in the SoCon. He’s averaged 162 yards the past four games. "He breaks tackles against everybody," Hendrix said. "People bounce off of him. He runs extremely hard. He is a hard guy to tackle. He’s a hard guy to simulate.”

...or ‘82. We lost 17-0 in PS to SC State in FU’s 1st-ever Playoff game. As Coach Caldwell so eloquently & accurately described it, “we were outmanned, outfanned, and out-band.” Or as I’m sure he also would say, “Our Offense ain’t pee nary a drop that day.”

Hope you are right on. The guy I see that scares me is the RB -Tackle tackle tackle. let’s win Furman!
