Happy we won. Still communication issues to fix on the offensive line (based on what Hendrix said after an earlier game and what others have pointed out from citadel game clips), but overall we're playing a like young team that's gotten even younger with the injuries we've had so far. I think we'll continue to get better as the year goes on, but we'll see if that translates into more wins.

Speaking of injuries, I'm pretty sure Moson broke his clavicle or had an AC separation. I couldn't quite hear in the post game interviews, but I think he alluded to the fact that he thought it was broken. Scott could clarify because I think he asked the question.

Stephens was also helped off the field on the play before I believe. Hopefully Stephens is ready to go with week. I would be surprised if we see Moson.

FUWolfpacker, If Moson had the last pick or was walking off the field slowly after the last play... IF that was him - number 8 I think - I watched him in person leave the field at the game (me and my injury fetish) ... yeah, he didn't look good .

Holding his arm very gingerly

40 Stephens looked "OK" like a bad ankle sprain. hurt it early in the game and came back in to play ... then hurt it again with a few plays left. drats. But came out of the tent to celebrate with everyone and it was cool - the players ran into the tent to let him know we won. He didn't look too bad. Was walking - suspect ankle sprain

*I agree I hope we improve but not sure how many wins we can accumulate. Samford woulda been possible. VMI SHOULD be a win. The others will all be tough. gonna post a thread about this -

I'm not physician, but it looks like the Citadel WR lands with his whole body weight on Moson after his interception.

Man, would stink to lose a guy on THE LAST PLAY. good grief -

and possibly 40 out for a game... maybe in last 4 plays of game. sheesh

Get well Mr. Moson !! Best wishes. Get well Xavier !!

#88's sole contribution to the game was belly flopping on Moson. 0 catches. 0 yards. 1 tackle.

Hate the bellhops as much as anyone, prolly more than most, but you seem to be implying there was something untoward about the tackle that bellhop made.

He ain’t did nuthin’ wrong. Just made the tackle.

He was prolly bad het up tho. And that’s a good thing. Hope his platoon was already planning their victory celebration.

On the option - folks, the triple option is just really really hard to defend. You don't see it often, so you don't rep against it often, and its assignment football and even if everyone is gap sound and makes their assignments you can still get blocked. If the offense makes their reads well, they are going to take advantage of your mistakes and those go for 10-15 yards usually. And, I'll never call a player out by name but we had an issue at a spot that contributed to some of those, no question.

Citadel crowd - yeah, looking across, I was pretty surprised at how thin it was. I wondered how many Citadel fans are closet Gamecocks and were up in Columbia watching that fiasco instead. Furman side was well stocked with loud purple folks. Great road game experience.

I do think that the more mature our throwing game gets, the more teams will have to pull hats out of the box and it will help the run game some. We have some real targets in Hinton, Ferguson, Chappel and now maybe Pryor too. Holbrook is looking good, Hester is coming along and Harris caught a couple big balls too.

Run game? Again, not calling any player out but one thing is obvious. We have split the carries almost evenly between two backs and one has twice as many yards as the other. There is real separation there and one guy seems to operate better in this scheme, behind this OL and 5 games in the coaches might have to let the snaps reflect the production.

1 - On the option, right - I figured there had to be a key weakness. I would love to watch the game and count the option runs ... I swear there were 5 or more that got Strong yardage by Citadel. but i don't them interwebs so far (CHARTER !) - all my ATT friends do !.... so not sure I can watch it

2 - Yes, another reason to throw more ... we can use the pass to set up the run. As much as that is Not the Furman DNA it may have to be this year. Jackal noted the safeties were back farther against us this year than they were last year... That SHOULD help our run already. Sadly it is not. If - and I trust Jackal's observation - the safeties of the opponent are playing farther back it is Not Good that we can't run for 100 yards. I guess we need to just throw even more and open up the box further. Who are we? Samford? :o

3 - Great catch. I am too dumb to have caught this. So I went and looked and you are right. We are splitting the carries almost evenly yet one back is doing much better than the other ... I used the "real" games of CSU, William and Mary ... and Citadel. (Not Ole Miss or Stetson). That is a great catch. If that continues for another game I would question why we would split the carries evenly ??
Just look at Citadel and William and Mary box score - SAME NUMBER OF Carries ! Many more yards for the one - and it is the Same guy - guy each time... and with CSU also.

Yeah, on the backs I don't know if one guy is "better" than the other, but I think we may be less effective in blocking gap scheme and more in zones, one guys skills set might fit the opportunities the scheme presents better. Stuff like that.

Right - it's NOT A SLIGHT on one guy. It is NOT. It's that sometimes as others (Jackal etc) have said, one guy's Skill Set is better for certain run like inside zone or what have you. If Roper wants to run X and Y and clearly one RB gets more yards and is better suited to that... then we probably shouldn't be splitting the carries evenly. That is just doing the opponent a favor ! I will never forget playing UCF (2015?) and they kept switching to this QB who was less effective vs us. Thank you UCF ! I have no idea why they did it but it allowed us to hang around and kick a FG (I think) to win !

Don't do the opponent any favors ! Sometimes coaches are BAFFLING. I am not saying ours. That UCF game will always stick wtih me. LOVE that we won. Great. But one UCF QB had a bad QBR of 43 - Schneider... he was 7/ 11 for 63 yards. One INT.
The other UCF QB had a QBR of ... TWO. Yes, TWO. And yet they kept letting him play - Tyler Harris.
He was 7/ 17 for 35 yards . TWO INT. His actual QBR was ONE POINT EIGHT. 1.8 !! And yet they kept putting him in the game.

Always felt if they left Schneider in they woulda won.. It's like they were determined that Harris had to play.
