Honestly, the players may appreciate a long weather delay. Temps have finally dipped below 100 and maybe they can play after the sun sets.

It seems Spectrum no longer has ESPNU. And when I try to watch on ESPN+, it says either “your event hasnt started yet- starts at 6:57” (it’s well after 7pm) when I click on the LIVE link, it says unavailable in your package/region (I live in GVL). Anyone else having issue?
With or without the delay that was a pretty boring game and did nothing for FCS football.

It's positive for a SoCon to get an out of conference win.
While this was not a "must win" game for Mercer, it was a "really need to win" game. So, winning ugly works fine for them in a results-oriented business.
And neither school has a fan base that cares to travel anywhere for football

It's an interesting decision. Playing on ESPN means something, certainly. The drive wasn't THAT far for either fan base.
Announced attendance was around 5500. So, both schools probably would have done better hosting that game in terms of attendance. Weather is a factor, too, of course. Sitting through a football game in late August in 100 degree temps is brutal.
