High level, it seems like we are going to have a lot more depth and experience virtually across the board than we did last year.
Which doesn’t necessarily translate into better or good, but hope so. We need a lot of players to get a lot better from last year to be a better team this year.

I see both sides of it.

While I would love for Furman to have a North Dakota State model where they just reload every year, the reality is most of Furman's best seasons have come after rebuilding years.

The team has plenty of talent, but it was hard last year to make up for the loss of 40 someodd players and having a completely new two deep at most positions. You add to that a bunch of season ending injuries early in the year (some even before the season started) and it is a recipe for disaster.

Dudek I can live with. Moson hurts a little.

Seemed to have the most promise of the young guys in the secondary, but we weren’t good at all in the secondary last year, so might not be the worst thing to have a mostly new look this year.

Timing is a bit odd. Feels like someone got in his ear about getting on the portal or maybe he got beaten out by some of the new guys? Oh well.

I agree. Timing is odd, especially after spring practice.

I suppose it is not unrelated that Furman has three sophomore CBs (same class as Moson) that played extensively last season - Hysan Dalton, Darren Coleman, and Javaris Jones. Furman also brought in two transfer CBs in the offseason - Wesley Abraham and Eddie Jackson.

I do not know his rationale, of course, but we are a lot deeper at CB going into '25 than we were in '24 where we really didn't know who was going to fill out the depth chart.

Moson hurts some, but it is not catastrophic.

Sometimes a player just gets a little sideways after an injury, they are not as engaged in the program, riding bike on side, maybe some buddies portal out or graduate, etc. and they decide they want a change. That's what I am guessing is going on here.

Den Johnson in the portal. A number of young DBs have exited the program since the end of the season.

NOT A COMMENT ABOUT THIS YOUNG MAN...or any of the other departees, specifically, or even DB's, in general... FUBeAR is just the messenger here...no slings & arrows, please...

When FUBeAR Jr. was being recruited, FUBeAR learned a good bit about the Academic Index (AI) the Ivy League uses regarding academic qualifications for Football Players.

Just a quick blurb from info about the Ivy AI ... "Band 1 athletes, more than two standard deviations below the Campus AI...are the most difficult admits."

FWIW...In FUBeAR's discussions with the Ivy Coaches, a few made comment around almost always saving their very few (only 2 or 3 of 30 Football Admits allowed) Band 1 'slots' to recruit CB's.

THAT's what THEY said ... Don't @ FUBeAR!!

I can’t wait for those who totally trashed our DB’s last year to comment on how losing these guys is the end of the world.

Our DBs struggled last year. Period. We had the worst passing defense in the SoCon. The numbers don't lie.

Having said that, these two guys, Moson and Dalton, they played, matured, grew and should have been starters/rotation guys and losing them is harmful. We have two transfers who came in but... well, we will see.

The good news is we have a lot of experienced depth at S and can move some guys maybe.

I'd rather have not lost Moson and Dalton though.

That….does not give me the warm fuzzies about next year.

From last year we have lost Holmes, Ingram, Moson, Dalton, and Johnson. Regardless of how we feel about them, that’s a lot of depth from the last couple of classes.

Would be surprised if we don’t try to bring in some guys. Mainsah started following several grad transfers the last couple of days.

Hopefully Coleman and Jones will be ready to go after playing a lot last year. I liked Jordan Miller’s tape out of HS but he was hurt all last year so not sure what to expect from him. Gummer was at CB before moving to safety last year so I guess he could be some depth there as well.

I will see how this all plays out.

My initial reactions are that it would be better not to lose these guys and a concern that, after a lot of stability, we have seen a lot of DBs depart the program the last two years.

I also am not sure there's a robust market in the transfer portal for guys that played on a comparatively weak FCS defense last season. None of these guys really played on the '23 team, so their film is essentially the dismal '24 season.

Also, hopefully we score so many points a game it does not matter. :)

I never know what any of this means, but Johnson, Dudek, and Dalton are no longer on the roster, but Moson is.

Usually, when a team leaves the players name on the roster, it means they would be welcomed back to the team out of the portal if they don’t find another team to go to.
