Played Florida in early 81.

Wilber Marshall (who should be in the NFL Hall of Fame) pounded Sluggo down an inch, but his neck rejuvenated before ‘82.

Correct.
My neck was fixed in spring practice before 1982 when "48 or 49 sweep" was call and either Barton or myself got the play call wrong.
Both guards pulled in opposite direction, and we collided.

Football : "If ain't broken; then it got fixed".

No doubt that when Mike and I collided was the hardest hit I had my entire career!! Thankfully it never happened in a game!!

ETSU has more $$ than we thought

This is really interesting.

Started off at Michigan and won the Big 10 and beat Ohio State.

Then, McCarthy beat him out and it was generally said that he became a douche in and out of the locker room.

Similar stories at Iowa and folks were glad to see him leave.

I guess Healy comes in and says why one for one year, but a new coach trying to bake in his culture, really questionable bringing in a guy like this.

Also interesting in that Healy was considered "up and coming" after winning some games at Austin Peay and then getting Charlotte to a bowl in year one. Then the bottom fell out and this is his rebound job. Similar stories.

I'm not the only army officer from that FU class :

Army Officers from FU :

Top photo : From left to right :

Byron Brooks (FB/TK)
Ernest Gibson (FB/TK)(Pro football, NE Patriots)
Byron Lee (FB/TK)
Felix Andrews (FB) - without cap in back
Mike Coleman (FB/TK)
Floyd White (TK)

FB=football
TK=track

Shout out to players/officers not in the photo :

David Henderson
Jeff Snipes (Sniper)
Jeff Johnson
.... and more, memory is an issue (LOL)
And
* Tyler Huff

*Huff and myself both started serving as Lieutenants before graduation.
I took early commission : Start serving in the Army Reserve before graduation and you get that rank (butter bar)
So I played football my senior year at Furman as a 20 yr old army officer (started Furman at 17).
That makes me think deep about this song :

SO :

Tell recruits that they don't have to go to West Point, The Citadel, VMI etc ...
Because they will become a full high ranking soldier in the US Army at FURMAN.

I'd liked to claim bravery for being a soldier; but the reality is I just wanted to out rank my daddy . LOL :

Thanks for sharing that Sluggo. You can add Gen Mullholland to your above list who I went to school with, however I didn't really know him.

That is only a short list of those I played sports with(except Huff). The full list of Furman officers is large.

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage

GoPaladins.com is not affiliated with Furman University or its athletics programs.
