• THE WORST SINCE 1972

Onviously we are going to finish 2-9 and 1-6. I really could not remember a worst season so I looked it up. The 1972 team finished 2-9 and 1-6. That 1972 team stuggled on O too. They scored 7 or fewer points 5 times. They did not win a home game and the 2 wins were against non D1. This team did not win a home game against a d1 team. Not calling d3 Stetson a d1 just because of some stupid ncaa thingy. So this season will match it as the worst since scholarship football returned. It is also the worst in 52 years. FU is on pace to set an all-time record for fewest rushing yards in a season, currently at 845 yds. Even the ‘72 team rushed for over 2,000 yda.and the 2020 7 game season rushed for over 1100 yds. Here are some things this team has accomplished that hasn’t happened since 1972.
1. Lost to an fbs team 76-0 by far the worst ever.
2. Lost at home to a team that has not won another game.
3. Lost a road game to a team that has not won another game.
4. Won onky one conference game for the first time since 1972.
5. Won the fewest games since 1972.
6. On pace to set a new all-time season low for rushing yardage,
7. Did not score over 24 points against a D1 team. Even the ‘72 team scored 35 one time.
8. Scored 20 or fewer points in 9 of 10 d1 games.
9. First team to lose back to back home conference games by 30+ points.
Despite what some were saying I was not expecting for it to be a good season but never thought it would be this bad.

Why does apaladin spend so much time compiling and communicating negative garbage? Isn't real life tough enough that we don't have to go mining for misery in our pastimes?

The truth is these are not the optimal days for our Paladins. It seems we are not hot-in-the-hunt for another conference championship right now. I know... alarmist... but the facts are we are not in the pole position to win it this year. We aren't. Indeed, our chances are a tad dicey.

The solution is to return to the basics. And that means possumry. Yes, I know apaladin doesn't approve of this type talk (its "not funny"), and while I do acknowledge his authority to police this board I also contend we've tried it his way with extreme negativity and it didn't work. So possums it is. And Finland.

I also think we need to elevate the personage of Coach Vaughn to vaunted Superior Human status. I think that would help.

One more thing - We all need to join the Paladin Club and the FFPA. Its part of my new Paladinology theory I have called the Paladinity Gospel. The more we give, the more we get. Furman wants us to prosper, so we give to it. You know, you can't outgive Coach Vaughn. If you give a dollar to the Paladin Club then Coach Vaughn will deliver more than a dollar's utility in other ways. Its a guarantee.

Maybe you are jesting, but if not:
•Why (really how) would one join FFPA if one is not a FFP?
•What %age of all FFP’s are members of FFPA?
•What %age of current Furman Football success is due to FFPA?

It is good and it is right for apaladin and all the rest of us to say aloud and say emphatically how bad this season is. We all need to know if this is our low point or not. Every single Furman fan/support needs to be determined that this is NOT ACCEPTABLE. [Or we could all just jump all-in with loving Mercer or Samford or Wofford (or whoever) and be spectators of all the fun, playing our bit part.]

I like CCH. I love CCH. Even if I do not utter a single word or thought about the current state of furman football, I know 100% that the FU people and coaches will be working as hard as they can to win games next year. That’s good enough for me. I’ll be there.

Has to be 3.
2 is NOT ACCEPTABLE next year.
But 2 IS ACCEPTABLE for 2024.
3 will be ACCEPTABLE for 2025.

Considering that this season is not over yet.....it is Ludacris to post something like this...but coming from Poopla....aka shit for brains....I would expect such.....

- Until we go through Spring practice....
- Find out who is transferring in or out?
- See how many of the 6+ starters who could not play this year due to injuries are able to play
- Finalize our recruiting class and admissions....
- Finalize our schedule....
- What red shirt Jrs are coming back....
- How much more of the Football Operational budget will the University cut and rely on the FFPA to fill the void....
- What if any coaching changes we will have....
- What does the landscape / competition in the SoCon look like?
- to name a few.....

I would think think that mid-August of 2025 we should have a good handle on what we have and don't have and can make a fact based prediction.

Based on the fact over the last 46 years The Furman Football Team has won....1 National Championship / 2 National Championship Runner-Ups and 15 SoCon Championships.....I have a belief that Clay will right the ship quickly......!

I'm not a former player and I joined a few years ago. I don't know that it matters, in that its a social group, yes, but they want the money to buy this and that for the gym and whatnot. I guess ask Bruce or Hollis. It costs like $75. See this link:
https://alumni.furman.edu/ffpa-membership-dues

I don't know what percent of former players are members. I assume its a far cry from what they want it to be, as these things tend to be.

The percent success of Furman Football that is due to the FFPA is undetermined. Football success determination is a multivariate analysis, and the causes complex. One obvious underpinning for success is recruiting better athletes, and the kind of projects the FFPA have completed have really put a nice dressing on some things that make the place more attractive for all concerned. (I recall them purchasing new carpet for the locker room or gym or something a while back.) Also, they do this tailgate thing, and a group of tall people getting together to talk about their glory days and drink too much and embarrass their wives sounds like a worthwhile cause to me.

So what you’re saying is that results don’t matter. OK, I think it’s silly to go around firing people for losing lots of games. But HS coaches have to sweat it for <1/3 of what he makes, so no more raises, is that reasonable?

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
