OK, we have seen 5 games. we are 2 - 3. TWO WINS.

I am asking "how many WINS do we get?" ... I am NOT asking for our final record.

*GO ahead and assume - for this fun - we do Not play Samford... because that would be a legitimate question.. Assume we do NOT play Samford

-------------------------
We have obviously won Two already - Stetson and Citadel.
I will cheat and say we either win 4 OR 5 games total. Hoping for 5 ! Best shots as VMI.. then Wofford and Western?

Not being harsh. Just hard for me to see much more until we can run block some..

What do you all say - at this point the guesses should be pretty educated. We have seen us and scores of our opponents too.

*How many games DO WE WIN? Total - counting the 2 we have won.

I think things are shaping up nicely for a seven-win season.

I think Furman is still finding out who they are.
CCH has said a few times that this is a weird season in many ways.
This young team has faced adversity from about every angle.

Furman is the team with the highest upside in the SoCon as the season progresses. I think the win in Charleston, especially the grit and adjustments made in the second half, shows this team's potential.

I think every game left is winnable.
I also believe in Clay.
Don't sleep on this offense just yet. I think the best is yet to come.

GF just be patient you will find out. Folks like you would have laughed at Vandy fans thinking they had a chance to beat Alabama. But they did. So let’s live in the moment and enjoy the ride.

Is every game winnable? Absolutely

Is every game a potential L? Yep.

We're going to have to clean some stuff up. We'd prefer not to have to rely on a furious 4th quarter offensive barrage to win.

Furman's talented enough to beat every team on the schedule. We also have enough inconsistencies where we could lose many of those games.

I'm just enjoying watching the future of the program. We've had a difficult year for a number of reasons, but when this group of youngsters sort of figures it out, we're going to be really good.

Sometimes to have a run like we had in '23, you've got to let those one day veteran players take some lumps as young guys.

Well said, Jackal. We're really in a weekly race of improvement. This group will be very good. Inconsistent early, consistent later. The puzzle pieces are there. Just wish we'd try a few adjustments in the OL for the running game. That's the area we need the fastest steps of improvement.

PaulC - YOU ALSO bet against Furman covering the points at Citadel. You too would have laughed at Vandy's chances. And you have to run the odds. Vandy is a once in 50 years thing. It's much like Equity investing. No different. Oddities happen but there are patterns

Give me a 50 / 50 payout on Bama Vandy and Ill be up 1 Million on Bama wins and lose 50K on the ONE VANDY win. UP 950,000. Sure Upsets happen. Sure, but they are called upsets for a reason !

These two statements are the keys. We can't expect to have a perfect last 7 minutes and score 14 points on our last 2 drives every game. That will not happen. If we are dependent on that we will lose more than we win.

I too am looking at the future. I find it dam funny PaulC says I wouldn't have thought Vandy would beat Bama - NOONE EFFING DID. Don't call me out like that as if I am different in thinking Bama would beat Vandy/.. PLEASE. WHATEVER.

As for this year, it is a "race of improvement" ... the less we improve the more we lose. And I agree COMPLETELY with AlltimeFU that the run game is the absolute most important piece. Several PMs about our OL

Real question - when is the last year we AVERAGED less running yards through 5 games than this year? I am really asking

Honest question - why not go look up the information yourself?
Jackal, your point has certain validity.... it seems obvious. But it is not

I ask here sometimes becuase I treat others the way I want to be treated ! I would love to help (like I did with AP asking about tickets on the board) because I ALREADY knew the answer to help him.... thus saving him the time of looking or calling .. I was able to save him time.

Thought some of you gurus might know. Or you might reply something like "you know we really couldn't run in 96- might want to try that year".

These are questions that are NOT in the game notes. Like last time yall thought I was asking "who is the last opponent to gain X yards vs Furman"? that is NOT what I was asking.

I was asking "who is the last opponent to OUTGAIN Furman by 300 yards rushing"? Which was NOT in our game notes.

No worries -

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
