Wofford loses 31-0 to UTC. UTC is supposed to be one of the SoCon's better teams, but I'm not sure either side expected that result.

I believe that is 11 consecutive losses for the Terriers.

Mercer didn't do much against Auburn. Hard to read too much into those games.

WCU and Charleston Southern had a shootout in the low country. We play both of them this year, and not sure either team plays much defense. WCU appears at first blush to be a typical WCU team - lot of offense, little defense.

How are things over in SparkleCity?

Wofford has not seen victory (or even a tie) in 16 consecutive SoCon games on their schedule - essentially 2 full seasons without a SoCon win … 0-fer, none, nada, nil, ZER….0!!!

How are things going for our friends, the bellhops, down in ChuckTown?

Take a quick click on their message board link to see…don’t worry, you won’t have to be there long … 2 seconds will show you all you need to know.

It's been 20 years since "Miracle on the Mountain," but it was somewhat satisfying to watch App State lose a freakish game at home yesterday with bizarre special teams plays, including this:

True - and them failing to convert their ‘go for 2’ twice, costing them the game, was also quite gratifying

…and with Billy Napier’s Team succeeding on a ‘go for 2’ to extend their lead to 3, instead of just 2 - so a FG won’t beat them, late in the game…and being successful on the conversion…and winning the game in a huge upset … also seemed to be the universe trying to put things right.

Was this sort of day for Wofford.

They couldn't even fall on their own fumble correctly.

From youngterrier on the Woffy board...I'm assuming the same youngterrier on the AGS:

"At a certain point, this isn’t even the coach’s fault. We’re just supremely apathetic as an athletic department about the success of Wofford football.
Another three and out. I’m tired of this nonsense.
And unlike the Citadel or Furman, we aren’t shutting down the message board because of the negativity. The administration chose this route of chaos by retaining an 0-8 coach.
"

Did I miss something? Didn't realize we shut down gopaladins or the UFFP at any point because of "negativity"...and I've been on here for going on 20 years.

That return turned out to be a blessing for the Appies. If NC just recovered it game would have bern over. As a result the return allowed ASU to go down and score and miss the 2 point conversion that would have tied it.

He's just talking out of his own ass trying to make himself feel better by making asinine comments about Wofftard's rivals, 100% Furman message board has never been shut down

Here’s how FUBeAR sees it after Weeks 0 & 1…

1T. Furman - just as good as FUBeAR expected. Surprise coming in TigerTown on Saturday?

1T. Mercer - some good, some bad. Physically competed with very big, very strong, very fast SEC Team. Lost more battles than they won (obviously), but not by much & there was no back-down and no quit in the Bears. Special Teams were better than expected - other than a missed XP & a bad punt snap…which Mercer, miraculously, turned into a 1st down. BUT - at several parts of the game, Mercer’s O looked like they have against VMI the past 2 years. Can’t ID what starts them into that ‘series of mental mistakes’ direction for a few plays or series and then what snaps them out of it, but they need to ID what the catalyst of it is and fix it. If they do, this is a clear contender for the SoCon Championship and a definite Playoff Team

3. ETSU - didn’t watch much. Looked OK in what FUBeAR did see. Will know more after they beat, I mean, face the bellhops

4T. Chattanooga - new QB helps their O. Not much of a test against a SoCon Team that hasn’t won a SoCon game in the equivalent of 2 full seasons - no wins for the Tearyers in their last 16 scheduled SoCon games.

4T. Samford - Impressed. QB did not play nearly as well as previous QB’s have played, but Team played much better overall. Maybe they’ve, mentally, been too QB-reliant. Will be interesting to see if D can hold up as season progresses. Also…wonder how much new blocking rules did/will compromise KSU’s O. With their schedule, we probably won’t have a feel for that until Mid-October or so. Samford will challenge for SoCon Championship. Looked like a definite Playoff Team against the #6 Team in FCS.

6T. VMI - didn’t get to watch much. What FUBeAR saw didn’t look too good. Lots of mistakes, misfires on O.

6T. WCU - QB looked better than last year’s QB. Really like him. Tons of speed on O. Look a lot like Samford’s best teams. OLine looked better. D started well, but seemed to lose discipline as game progressed. WCU will challenge to move into SoCon top-tier this season IF discipline on D can be improved. If so, most likely a Playoff Team.

8T. CIT - FUBeAR liked what he saw of their O early and then they seemed to lose confidence in the Woffy Xfer QB and dumbed everything down….and didn’t throw. Didn’t he throw for 5 TD passes against the bellhops last season? D was rough at start, but seemed to buckle down for a while & then just plain buckled. Thought they could get it together, but just seems like a Team that doesn’t believe it can win, doesn’t believe in itself, and doesn’t really know how to win.

8T. Wofford - Is Conklin still their Head Coach? He is? 0 for his last 16 scheduled SoCon games. Nothing else to add.

1 million percent wofftard on 16 game socon losing streak, without a doubt they forfeited those games in 2020

What a bunch of pansies

Mercer is going to be a little bit of a unique team to track this season. Looking at their schedule, they may not face a team that feels like an even talent matchup until after mid-season.

The good news for Mercer is they should be able to wins on the board early in the season and may even go into the second week in October 4-1.

The downside, of course, is that their back end of the schedule is pretty stacked.

Here’s how Mr. Massey sees it…

FCS Rank Team —- Projected SoCon Record —- Projected Overall Record
7 Chattanooga —- 8-0 —- 10-1
21 Furman —- 5-3 —- 7-4
26 Samford —- 5-3 —- 7-4
28 Mercer —- 6-2 —- 8-3
30 ETSU —- 6-2 —- 8-3
42 W Carolina —- 3-5 —- 5-6
49 VMI —- 2-6 —- 4-7
58 Wofford —- 1-7 —- 1-10
77 Citadel —- 0-8 —- 1-10

Seems the algorithms may be turning a bit more SoCon-favorable with 5 Teams in the Top 30. And, of course, after WCU beats GT Saturday, they will be Top 30 also. Still 2-5 SoCon Teams are grouped too low. They should each/all be 10 slots higher.
