Keeps you from holding.
I should think so. Probably keeps you from doing a lot of things, buckling pants, opening jars, etc.

I know you can't tell much from a short video clip…
but we're looking pretty darn good throwing the ball.

Wonder who our starting QB will be?

FUBeAR would bet it’s gonna be the guy that Coach Hendrix & Coach Roper think is going to give us the best chance to beat North Greenville.

For sure, I am very intrigued to see who that will be

I like to think we have multiple QBs who can beat North Greenville.

I don't pay a ton of attention to these things, but do we normally put boxing gloves on our defensive backs during drills?

Keeps them from holding. Forces ‘em to cover using great technique, rather than relying on actions that can get flagged in games.

Kinda like, in the old days, during Spring Practice (only), the D was instructed (by the D Coaches) to fight the Offensive Player if they felt the Offensive Player was holding them. Well, of course, if they got beat, they ‘must have’ been held. We had A LOT of fights in Spring Practice; not allowed in the Fall. Several every Spring session. Not sure it taught the OLmen & TE’s not to hold, but it taught us to hold a bit more surreptitiously…and taught us to fight pretty good too…well, as good as one can fight in full Football gear. FUBeAR would guess they don’t fight that much anymore.
I saw some near fisticuffs out there last week that reminded me of the Sheridan days when I saw more practices. Good omen. I remember one smallish OL on a Sheridan team that skirmished a lot.

Perhaps, but only 1 can be THE Starting QB…unless Coach Roper is REALLY getting innovative with our new Offense.

Defensive backs: https://furmanpaladins.com/news/2022/8/ ... eties.aspx

Really liked this little nugget:
"It's great to have Cally back out there and healthy. He's been around and will be a big part of our plans, especially with some of our sub-packages where we will have five, sometimes six defensive backs on the field."

There aren't many FCS football teams that can throw 5 or 6 starting-caliber DBs at an offense. There are backups on this team that would have been locked starters on a lot of our teams over the last 15 years.

This is a serious strength for the Dins.

I can't recall ever having that sort of depth in the defensive backfield.

These aren't just special teams guys. I think Furman is going to throw all sorts of different defensive looks at teams and, I expect, will bring pressure frequently from the defensive backfield.
