Hmmm? How long until we see an “amateur” collegiate athlete on this list? $30m NIL deal and they are in the club. That’s pin money for some of Stanford’s TechBillionaire Alums.

But almost nobody would be able to make a NFL 53 man roster at 19. Some few might make a practice squad. College NIL pays better than that. The NFL pays people what they are worth. College boosters just pay people so they can brag about it. I can’t think of any way to stop that. The schools themselves will have to forbid it, but then they will be at a disadvantage.

NIL is (relatively) nothing…

…CARGEA is on the horizon

Think NIL blew up college sports? California is going for the knockout with new bill
https://www.latimes.com/sports/story/2 ... -bill-ncaa

…Senate Bill 1401, named the “College Athlete Race and Gender Equity Act,” cuts right to the heart of the collegiate model and the ideals of amateurism. SB 1401 would require California schools to share 50% of annual revenues in football and men’s and women’s basketball with the athletes, initiating a new era of “pay for play” — and what college sports leaders fear would be a doomsday scenario for athletic departments that currently use profits from revenue sports to fund their non-revenue sports programs.

California is so stupid. How many schools are operating n the black in California? So when they are in the negative will student athletes have to pay up? They don’t realize that football and basketball pay for all the other sports or are just stupid which I tend to lean toward the latter.

Profits do not matter. They don’t need to be “in the black.” They are required to pay out to the athletes off the top line - revenues. The schools will just have to figure out how to make do with 1/2 of their former revenue.

Politicians, especially California politicians, seem to have exactly zero understanding of how businesses operate. They think that profits don’t matter because, well, you know, it’s just deficit spending…and ‘if we take away half of their revenue and they really need that money to stay solvent, they can just raise their prices…like we do when we vote to increase taxes.’

Which leads to… “Have you thought of leaving California? If so, join the club. Recent polls by researchers at U.C. Berkeley (2019) and U.C. San Diego (2021) indicate that half of Californians have considered moving out of state. And millions have already moved. In 2020 alone, nearly 650,000 people left California for other states — about 210,000 more than moved to California from elsewhere in the U.S. This phenomenon of departures exceeding arrivals isn’t new. Every year since the 1990s, more people have exited California than have moved in from other parts of the country. Between 2007 and 2016, California lost a net 1 million residents to other states…” https://www.sbsun.com/2022/03/23/what- ... alifornia/

These types of ‘fairness’ policies (forced exorbitant corporate & individual revenue, profit, and asset reapportionment) have proven they can shut down countries, are shutting down states…and, if implemented anywhere, will be that final nail in college athletics that we’ve discussed previously here.

I met a lifelong Californian the other day who has moved out and is singing the praises of North Augusta, SC. Seems to really hate what his state has become.

I also had family from NM in Charleston last weekend. They couldn’t get over the lack of homeless people (even though chucktown has a good many). Accused us of hiding them.
