All of the scenarios that are possible make for interesting discussion. However, it's really simple. Win this weekend and I don't have to be concerned about anything. I look at this game like it's a playoff. We should be singularly focused on Wofford. The team will take the same approach because they control their destiny. A win this weekend guarantees a seat at the table and the possibility of a bye weekend and a home game in round two. That said, the Point game has a lot riding on it's outcome as well. For those concerned about our lack of wins at Wofford...we can make this a home game by showing up in mass. That playoff game in 17 sure felt like a home game. If 7,500 can show up for VMI, there is no reason why 5,000 can't make the trip to Sparkleburg.

To be the best you have to beat the best.

In the words of Don Vito Corleone: "A (team) can have but one destiny."

If it is our destiny to face the freezing climate of Fargo, we must embrace it - and deliver a Purple punch in the mouth! What better way to set the FCS World on its ear than to slay the Bison in their lair?

FargoDome: Two teams enter . . . one team leaves.
I was in Fargo the last time. if we play them again, i will likely be there. BUT first i gotta go to Sparkle City.

I’m hoping we can get the 7th seed so we go through JMU. I’ll be at that game, don’t think I can make that Fargo trip.

I think everyone is giving the committee way too much credit. It's been proven year after year with only a rare exception the committee takes the final coaches poll, eliminates the non-participants and makes out a bracket. I do not believe for one minute that they look at each team individually and compare scores etc. They simply do not do this. IF the above nightmare scenario happens where Citadel gets the auto bid FU would still be ranked in the top 15 or so and clearly in the playoffs. The committee is not supposed to look at conferences either, like we can only take 2 SoCon teams not 3. If Citadel wins out remember WC would have another loss also and they would prolly still get in but would be clearly on the bubble.

For the record, our last home playoff game was a 14-12 win over Nicholls St in 2005.

14 freaking years ago.

I realized this when a younger co-worker who is an FU alum and former athlete said "I've never been to a home playoff game at Furman" and he's around 30 yrs old....

Really haven't had that many in the last 25+ years. This is off the top of my head but I believe it was:

When was last home game before 1999? 1991 maybe?
99 - UMass (L)
00 - Hofstra (L)
01 - Jacksonville State (W), Lehigh (W)
04 - James Madison (L)
05 - Nicholls (W)

So 6 home playoffs games (3-3 record) since early 1990s. Road warriors in 2017 for 2 games, 2013 for 2 games, 2006 for 1, quarters and semis in 2005, 2002 for 1, semis in 2001 ... We are long overdue.

That's what going off of memory gets me ... several mistakes.

01 was Western Kentucky and then Lehigh.
04 was Jacksonville State and then James Madison.
89 was last home playoff game before 1999.
So 4-3 at home in playoffs since 1990.

01 WKU win
04 Jax St win

About Us

GoPaladins.com is the latest iteration of The Unofficial Furman Football Page. Launched in August of 1996, The UFFP welcomes fans of all FCS football teams - and fans of the more inferior sports, too - for discussion, cameraderie, and even the occasional smack talk.

For example, Furman has nearly twice as many Southern Conference football championships as the next best SoCon member, and over three times as many as The Citadel....which is why they must carry our luggage
