NCAA TOURNAMENT IS DIFFERENT

Scoring is not the same in the NCAA tounament. In the first 40 games only 2 teams reached 90 points. Both of those were #1’s vs. #16’s. Out of the 80 teams only 8 reached 80 including the 2 that got to 90.

And what is the reason, if known?

The biggest thing I have noticed is that many of the teams this year play great defense. However, as I watch the Kentucky vs Kansas State game on right now, I realize that there are a lot of poor shooting teams this year. Shooting in game is bad. Update, shooting was bad until the last 4 minutes. I love it when Kentucky goes down.

They always shoot bad in the tournament, but I do think something’s up. Seems like shooting is just not as good or might be that defenses have caught up to offenses, so it’s time for things to change again. I’m kinda bored with the 3 point thing, so I kinda hope the game shifts back to big dudes fighting it out in the paint.

Edey , the 7'4" center for Purdue, was the national player of the year. Purdue lost in the first round to a team that lost 14 games during the regular season and only made the tournament because the team they lost to in their conference tournament was ineligible for the NCAAs because they haven't been D1 long enough. Fairleigh Dickinson lost to Merrimack College and then beat Big Ten champ Purdue in their next game. FDU only hit 30% of their threes but Purdue only hit 19% of their threes.
Kentucky just lost to Kansas State in the 2nd. round. UK has Oscar Tshiebwe, a traditional low post dominator at center- 6'9, 260. He had 25 pt and 18 rebounds today to go with his 25 rebounds in their first round victory. Great talent. Never hit a three point shot in his career. Kentucky only hit 20% of their threes and lost to a team that hit big threes down the stretch. Kansas State didn't shoot threes great but just a little better than Kentucky.

The Paladins hit a superior 3 point percentage than Virginia and win, we shoot a lower percentage than SDState and lose.
Coaches are logical people. They tend to notice that teams tend to win when that happens. Teams that defend the three point line reach the tournament to begin with. They still need to be able to shoot the shot, even if the percentages are lower than the regular season.

Don't know if this is just another excuse, but I've heard a lot of talk about the "new" basketballs being used for the tournament this year.

Slick, overinflated balls have been known to be problematic. May be what kept Fred Garvin out of the league.

Maybe they need to find the old Voit rubber basketballs.

I bet he could sniff that joke coming from a mile away.

Gonzaga beat UCLA in a wild finish to advance to the Elite 8 and a regional finals. A big part of that was a huge game off the bench by Malachi Smith, who transferred to Gonzaga after being SoCon POY at Chattanooga last year. Smith, who was WCC 6th man of the year this season, hit 6-11 shots and scored 14 points. Most of those were in the second half. He also played great defense against UCLA star guard Tyger Campbell including a steal with about 3 seconds left.

Except for the UConn blowout, all games last night were good. March Madness is heating up.

Should we pull for SDSU tonight?

Last nights games were awesome. I am pulling for SDSU, especially against Alabama. However, I hope Noah Hurley has a big night.

We should pull for SDSU to win the National Championship and to win every game by 24 or more points.
