Mike Buddie

I am confused.

Back on May 39, it was announced that Mike Buddie was headed to West Point.

Since then I have seen nothing more on the subject or the search for a replacement. Until today.

There was an item on the website concerning the elevation of Julie Steffes to the position of Associate Athletic Director.

The announcement was made by Athletic Director ...MIKE BUDDIE?!!

What's the story? Is he leaving? Is he working out his 30 day notice?

I know some people are on vacation after the school year, but that was almost a month ago.

The status of the AD position is of more than abiding interest and concern.I don't think the the fan base is being well served by the current paucity of information

Mike agreed to stay on until the end of June.
I also hear that FU administration has had lots of interviews with an excellent crop of candidates and are in the process of narrowing down the candidates now. They have been very pleased with the reception the opening has created. Dr. Davis made an excellent choice with Buddie and I am confident she will make another.

Good grief. It hasn't even been 30 days since he resigned, with his last day being June 28. There is a search committee already at work. Good AD's don't grow on trees. It takes a little time to find the right person for the job.

So...FUBeAR finds the interesting piece of that announcement is that Jodi Steffes was also named Sr. Women’s Administrator (SWA), but FU already had an SWA in place - Elaine Baker https://www.furmanpaladins.com/informat ... e?view=bio - “In addition, from 1997 through 2019 she has served as the department’s senior woman administrator”...and she was still listed as SWA on the website when this announcement was released.

So...

1) Elaine is giving up that responsibility to focus fully on Sports Medicine...perhaps even winding down a bit. She’s been around a long time - she even used to tape FUBeAR’s ankles on occasion - been a hard-working, loyal Paladin, and certainly has earned the right to pass off one of her multiple hats.

OR

2) Is that a clue that this long-tenured Sr. Athletic Dept. stalwart & Greenville native daughter just may be the next FU AD?

Your thoughts?

I have never met Elaine Baker, and know little of her administrative skills. But I do recall the last time we promoted an athletic trainer to the position of AD.

Well, the responses have cleared things up. Mike is working out his 30 day notice. Makes sense. Thanks.

I don't have a lot of access up here in Delaware, except for what I get here and on the web site.

When I saw the announcement about Jodi Steffes it did occur to me that she might be a possible replacement, but, if that were the case, the interim position would be superfluous. Don't know anything about Elaine Baker

What I find troublesome is that the Website has never addressed, in any way, Mike Buddie's departure. Maybe there's a reason for it, but I can't figure out what it could be. Maybe, after a month, it's old news.

I’ve gotten dozens of Mike’s tweets since he was announced at Army West Point; and almost all of them, if not all of them, have been promoting Army West Point athletics, not Furman athletics.
I am glad he is working out a notice for Furman.
I would like it very much if we could get a FB game up there and a home& home in men’s basketball and women’s also.

Monkey don’t want any of what CCH would bring up to West Point. Used to beat Army like they was Gub’mint Mules when he was @ AF!

2016/11/05 Army 12 - Air Force 31 L
2015/11/07 Army 3 - Air Force 20 L
2014/11/01 Army 6 - Air Force 23 L
2013/11/02 Army 28 - Air Force 42 L
2011/11/05 Army 14 - Air Force 24 L
2010/11/06 Army 22 - Air Force 42 L
2009/11/07 Army 7 - Air Force 35 L
2008/11/01 Army 7 - Air Force 16 L
2007/11/03 Army 10 - Air Force 30 L

See what FUBeAR did there?

Was they not Gub’mint mules?
More seriously:
-Was CCH the main reason for all those wins?
-How many of those games were at WP and how many at CS? I expect about half were not “up there” at WP.
-In those years, what were the comparative overall quality and records for each of the 2 schools?
-How many times did Army beat NAVY each of those years?
-Hasn’t Army gotten better than they were for a number of years including 2016?
If Furman would beat Army or even compete well in the game, it would be great for Furman. I believe Army frequently plays FCS teams like VMI, Colgate, Bucknell, Lafayette, Lehigh, Holy Cross, Ivy League schools, etc., at least once every year or 2. Why not Furman, other than travel time and expense?
Update: Quick perusal of Army’s recent and upcoming schedules.
Last 4 years, they had 2 FCS opponents most of the seasons.
This year, 2019, they have VMI and Morgan State.
Next 4 -5 years after this, they will again play Morgan State, plus Fordham, Lafayette, Colgate multiple times, Bucknell multiple times, Dartmouth.

I also realize that Army West Point typically has a very lightweight schedule. Appears that at most they almost never have more than about 1 “hard” opponent in any given year.

Army plays VMI and at Georgia State this year.
