This would be great for the SoCon and for Furman. I loved playing against CofC. https://www.postandcourier.com/health/c ... 50a98.html

It would improve the conference. TD Arena is a great facility in a fantastic location.

And they sell beer!

The SoCon needs the CofC. I am sure the CAA has an exit fee, and the most recent info I find (probably outdated) indicates that fee to be $1,000,000. The SoCon should directly help CofC with that fee, to some extent. I think CofC in the SoCon would help the conference in many ways. I wonder if the SoCon might possibly go after UNCW and/or Winthrop at the same time.
I realize that CoC, UNCW, and Winthrop all do not have football, and there would be opposition due to that. That opposition would need to be overcome in some manner.

Hmm, how much does the SoCon need CoC? Let's see the Pomeroy rankings of the conference 7 years before and 7 years after they left:

Before: 18, 13, 25, 19, 20, 26, 28
After: 30, 25, 19, 14, 22, 13, 15

That #13 in the "before" list is when Davidson went to the Elite Eight.

In the past 20 years, CoC has been in the Pomeroy top 100 three times, to the NCAA tournament one time, and zero NCAA wins. They are not a great program by any objective measure. Adding more teams dilutes the payout SoCon members get from the NCAA. They aren't particularly close to anyone except Citadel, and aren't even rivals with them.

Basically, there are zero positives to adding back CoC, with I guess the slight exception that they are good at baseball still. Regardless, they aren't coming back anytime soon, if ever. Even if someone leaves (e.g., VMI), I doubt CoC would be at the top of the list of targets. They made an idiotic decision and I'm perfectly content to see them continue to flounder.

I watched them a lot in 2018 and I’m glad FU didn’t have to play them. But they will really drop off next year without Riller. No they aren’t great but their games are fun and they have beer.

Very true. CofC 'needs' the SoCon much more than the SoCon needs them, at this point. It's actually a pretty humorous turnaround. They were the self-proclaimed 'saviors of the SoCon' in the late 90s yet only won the SoCon Tournament 1 time - in their first season, no less.

There are pluses and minuses to bringing the CofC back in the SoCon, but the SoCon members should never have to pay any penalties the Cougars would owe for leaving the CAA. That is ridiculous.

I see no reason to bring them back at this current time.
